Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is.
[Shamelessly stolen from a source that any nerd will recognize instantly.]

D'oh can I help it if I watch a lot of movies ... Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
[Grabbing torch and pitchfork] Did he just refer to HHG2TG as a movie?

Rude realizes that his oh-so-clever HG2G reference was mistaken for a C3PO reference... D'Oh!

::::::WARNIING, PREPARE FOR GEEKIENESS!::::::

If anyone is actually interested.  The warp necelles create a warp field that squashes space in front of the ship and stretches the space behind the ship.  So technicaly the Enterprise doesn't move at all in warp speed.  Space moves around the ship.

I was bieng threated with death by wolf raping before it was cool!.

At warp speed, dust motes would ram a ship with about the force of an atom bomb, so they can't actually be moving through space, or the crew would be summersaulting over railings pretty much 24/7.

Except that there's no atmosphere or anything holding the dust mote in place, so the immensely greater mass of the ship would send the mote shooting off on a endless trajectory until it collided with some other object.

Can you imagine the force phasers, photon torpedoes, and other ship to ship weapons must be packing? On top of their inherent firepower, weapons are sometimes being fired at warp speeds, which, when you consider the vacuum of space, means the energy burst or projectile hits the target moving faster the the ship it was fired from, and the ship itself was already moving faster than light. That gives you an idea how durable starship hulls are.

Never tell me the odds!!
But sir the odds of successfully navigating an asteroid field are approximately 3,720 to 1!!!!!!!

I'm having this vision of planets scoured clean by the radiation burst from interstellar hydrogen and dust moving and relativistic velocities bombarding their planet due to a starship flying by.

This would be a much larger problem than the cloaked ships, BTW, since the star ships moving at warp would be leaving a streaming cone of death behind them and they do move into warp near planets...

Damn you beat me to it.

Warp would be cool if, of course, sub-space (a requirement for the tech to work) actually existed. Which it doesn't.
