Many thanks. I'll have to try and find the time to study this stuff somehow.

I'm going to try this out with Over The Top and report back the results. Thanks hailxenu.

You might have had some trouble with "Over the Top" with this method.  I know I did - IFOEdit kept shutting down when I tried to remux the VOB.  I finally got it to work by remuxing with Muxman (freeware version).

nxylas, sounds to me like you don't have the complete MP3 file, could you have had an interrupted download or something?  Try downloading it again.
Did that, but I've noticed that if I import the movie audio, then the riff, Audacity cuts off the movie audio after 15 minutes. It doesn't seem to show the complete tracks for both movie and riff, whichever I import first.

I have to say, I'd appreciate a lot more detail in the Audacity section of the re-authoring guide. Audacity is a pretty scary-looking program if you've never used anything like it before, and it needs a step-by-step idiot's guide (The Audacity of Dopes?) to be able to use it properly.

That's a new one on me, which version of Audacity are you using?

Please let me know if Over the Top works for you.  So far, I've completed 16 re-authors, and the only discs I've had a problem with using this method are  Independence Day, Matrix Reloaded, and Spider-man.

I've completed 45 re-authors by demultiplexing and remultiplexing the original DVD, and Casino Royale, Alien, and Independence Day are the only ones I haven't solved yet.

On Sixth Sense, the subtitles don't match the dialogue

I never have figured out a good way to make subs work. Tried a few programs and all of them had serious issues. One in particular didn't like NTSC movies.

hello - long time mst3k fan, first time riff.. fiddler.. or something.

just wanted to say thanks to Largento for the step-by-step guide for using garageband on the mac.. i've only done roadhouse so far, but it was very straightforward. one thing i found... you don't actually need the step where by you chop off the rifftrax intro in a seperate app before importing it into garageband - you can do it all in GB. just import the rifftrax mp3, select it and the track waveform etc will appear in the bottom section. then simply go to the waveform, click and drag to select the intro region, cut and there we go (you'll probably want to zoom in etc to get the region just right). it doesn't affect the original mp3 either.

i never knew about GB's ducking feature.. how cool is that?

the only downside with GB is that it does create it's own versions of the audio files etc (which, if you save a project, are contained within the project package) and these tend to be large (my roadhouse project is around 2gig). something to be aware of.

i dunno if i'm dense and missed it somewhere,  but are the timings for the disembaudio announcements noted anywhere? i see chapter marker sync points, but it would be useful to also have the disembaudio points listed as well.

The read-me files should all have a listing of  Disembaudio synch lines under the chapter stop listings.

yeah, usually they are, but Roadhouse is the one title that dosent have the sync lines in the readme.  But, they are around.  One could click on a link , and maybe they might be taken to sync line of some kind.

Whoops, didn't bother to look at the Roadhouse file.  Haven't reauthored that one and that's usually the only reason I look up those files

What discs of have had subtitle issues with?

I've had issues with
Batman & Robin
Transformers
Cloverfield
X Files: Fight for the Future
The Sixth Sense

The subtitles appear to be ahead of the dialogue

At least these have closed captioning

  • Hey hey mama said the way you move
My apologies if this question has been asked already.

Anybody know a good freebie PC program that will convert a DVD to AVI or even WMV? I ask because I'm experimenting with streaming my stuff to my Xbox 360, thus skipping a step.
