Ok, thanks for the replies, guys... I appreciate any help you guys can offer on setting me straight.
You didn't follow the guide as painstakingly as you think I'd say. I'd use the Rifftrax Lite guide if you didn't already.
It's really not that hard to reauthor once you figure out what you did wrong. Trial and error.
Well, evidently you are correct. But I mean, I spent many hours reading and re-reading each step, trying each step multiple times, etc.
I tried the Lite version first, but I actually tried both versions and got stuck in basically the same place.
The VIDEO_TS folders should be produced by your reauthor program, either Rejig or IFO Edit (depending on which guide you're using). I've seen Rejig give me that kind of trouble before. What program are you using? What movie is it? That could be important. I've had a few movies go nuts in Rejig during the creation of the VIDEO_TS folders and the IFO files.
It's also possible that the VIDEO_TS folder was created, but it's not where you're looking. Some programs will create a VIDEO_TS in a default location that may be separate from where the rest of your files are. Pay attention to where you're asking it to place the reauthored files.
I used both, but spent the most time using Rejig and following the Lite guide.
The movie is Spider-man (the first one).
The re-author asked me to name the output folder (which I think I just named "output"), and it put a .VOB file inside that folder. Are you saying if I re-mane the folder "VIDEO_TS" that would work? I think the next step was asking me for a file, not a folder, but I'll definitely give that a shot if you think it might work.
Also I'll add that reauthoring is fun to some, as a hobby, but too much of a pain for others, even diehard Rifftrax fans. I've had some real challenges from movies that would only demultiplex part of the movie in the first phase (X-Men 2, Jaws) to movies that would create only a partial IFO Video_TS file when reauthored (Dark Water, Missile to the Moon) to movies that had some extra copy protection on them (Casino Royale, The Dark Knight) to movies that weren't even available on DVD (Star Wars Holiday Special, The Incredible Hulk Final Round). They can be frustrating, but it's a great hobby. If it gets to be to much for you, I recommend the Rifftrax Player.
Oh. it's no fun for me at all! It's one notch above painful dentistry for me. It's just the sad, necessary evil of Rifftrax (don't get me wrong, I understand legally why they can't just sell you proper DVDs of the Rifftrax'd films, and am not asking them to. Really, that's why I've followed MST3K, CinTan and Film Crew but never Rifftrax up till now).
So no matter how many times you tried to pause the track or the movie it kept going out of sync? Are you sure you got the right version of the riff for your dvd? (NTSC for North America or PAL for most everyone else)
Yeah, it's out of sync consistently throughout the entire film. I think it's always a couple of seconds ahead of the video (you hear them say it, and then you see them say it). I Definitely am using the NTSC Rifftrax for the NTSC DVD. It's not (just) the Rifftrax that's out of sync, it's the original audio. The Disembaudio voice is always 100% matched up throughout the film, but both audio tracks are always mismatched from the video footage.
You don't HAVE to reauthor the movies at all. All you have to do is put the dvd in your player, play the .mp3 file on your computer or stereo or whatever you want, listen to the prompts that Mike gives, and then start the movie when they say to.
I can't speak for that other lady, but I don't watch movies on my computer. I watch them on the television with my family, and I just don't have a feasible way to connect my computer to my television. I finally decided to buy a Rifftrax (of a DVD I already own - that's why I chose Spider-Man) because I read the guide and imagined being able to follow the steps and factory-like make some DVDs to watch. But, yeah, I hit a solid dead-end (and unfortunately, it was on a step that came after buying the Rifftrack). So I really hope I can make this work somehow, but I really can't imagine spending so many hours (not to mention tying up my computer for so long!) for every episode. It's so frustrating!
