Mighty Mighty Bosstones last night with MrTorso & his wife for their Hometown Throwdown 14
Good show, Good mix of songs, and a cover of It Sure Don't Feel Like Xmas. (The Dogmatics I think?)

Yeah it was a good time!  You are right about the Dogmatics cover. X'Mas Time and the line in that song about going to Filene's and shopping for a friend is a reference to a song from Unatural Axe called Shopping for Friend (which the Bosstones have covered too)

Man, even from that picture, they sound loud!  :)

I've just come back from the Cecil Sharp project, which is a collaborative look at the songs that Sharp collected in the early 20th century from the rural south west of England and the Appalachian mountains of the US.  Great line-up, too - Caroline Herring, Jim Moray, Jackie Oates, and Steve Knightley are all great on their own, but form a mini-supergroup.

Went to the Auburn CD release show in Providence, RI on Saturday.  Couple other hardcore bands played Longshot and some others that I don't really remember the names of.

Even saw a hardcore jewcarpenter doppelganger tearing it up in the most pit!

Listened to a couple tracks on the bookface. Not bad. Super tight. Seems like they'd be a good live band.

Do you listen to Underoath by chance?

Yep! I actually got their first demo cd when I was a DJ at my college station. Wish I still had it. It wasn't very good. But it is going for insane $ on ebay.

The guys in Auburn are super nice guys and are really hard working.  I've been listening to the unmastered version of their album for almost a year now.

Just got back from the first of 4 concerts this week.  Big Boy Bloater, who sounds like Joe Cocker if Cocker decided to gargle with glass for a few hours.  He was awesome.  I mean, check this out:

I don't know how successful they were internationally, but the band I saw tonight were pretty big in the UK in the 80s.  Tripe will certainly know them: Big Country.  They were great live, even though it's a new singer (other one passed away awhile ago) and the support act (GUN, who were famous for 5 minutes with Word Up were incredibly bland).

One time I accidentally saw Marilyn Manson (and the Spooky Kids)... It was $1 admission night at this club (The Junkyard) on South Beach. We go in and Merrily Manson is singing Iron Man through a bull horn.... We left.

Just got back from seeing Paul and Storm in downtown Orlando. First time seeing them solo (Duo? Well, sans JoCo or w00tstockers), and it was a smaller crowd than I usually see them in, but still an energetic crowd. I taped a good chunk of the show, but I sadly didn't have the battery (or the tripod/arm stamina) to get the whole thing. They played at least three of my favorites of theirs ("Nugget Man", "A Better Version of You", and "Frogger: The Frogger Musical"), plus some I've never heard them do live (like "The Easter Song" and their new songs about George Lucas and George RR Martin), so it was quite a treat.

I went to go see Die Antwoord at the Metro the other night.  Weird band but a fun show.

I saw them on Letterman a couple of weeks ago. They were amusing.

Just got back from an evening dedicated to the music of Nina Rota and Ennio Morricone.  Rota is probably best known for the Godfather score, but worked with Fellini on his best films too.  Morricone did all the spaghetti westerns.  All of them.

It was really cool.  The Steinway piano onstage was gorgeous.
