I'll confess I have seen a bit of Rogan's stuff here and there, but not a lot.  Nothing I've seen comes close to the precision and execution of that bit there.  Admiration: leveled-up.   :D  (And thanks for the link, D.B.).

The problem is, I feel like I'm too old now to attend a rock or metal concert. The sort of people who attend concerts of the bands I like are mostly teens, and I'm now in my mid 30's. I'd just feel out of place.

I still go to shows and I am 39! I don't go in the pits like I used to but I never feel out of place. You would be surprised the wide range of ages at any given show.

Agreed, age should be no barrier to going to concerts, my main group of friends are all in their 40s+ and we go to every show we can afford.(Hard Rock Cafe Im looking at you)

Also want to agree with Thrash's post about the general level of friendliness from your average metal crowd. Granted, I dont do death\black metal where some of the real hard core fans go, but in most of your more "main-stream" metal concerts(Priest, Maiden, Etc) you will find alot of people that just want to enjoy the show and they are more than willing to enjoy it with random strangers.

Anyway, to the main topic.

Just saw Judas Priest's "Final(?) Tour" last week with Black Label Society and Thin Lizzy. Priest still puts on just as good a show as the alwyas have, Halford is simply amazing, his voice is still strong. The guy that replaced KK DOwning looks just like the mid-80s KK, we had to double check just to make sure that it wasnt KK.

Just got back from punk rock legends THE MEATMEN! With BLACK FAG opening for them.

I have wanted to see Black Fag for about 8 years now and this is the first time playing the east coast! They were pretty fabulous!!

Got back from a rather interesting night with a selection of classical music was played, interspersed with Peter Straub narrating a horror (perhaps, the biggest drawback of the night was you could barely make out what was being said) story.  Overall a mixed bag, but the music was excellent.  I even got to hear some light opera, and in what was easily the highlight of the entire thing, Paul Dukas' Sorceror's Apprentice.  You know, the best bit from Fantasia.

Festival of Flutes - Sir James Galway with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra
A great show with a nice selection of pieces:
Vivaldi - Piccolo Concerto in C Major
Bach - Brandenburg Concerto No. 4, which does sound lovely with Flutes though I still prefer it in the instruments it was written for, though finding good Recorder players is difficult even for a Symphony orchestra.
Paquito d'Rivera - Gran Danzon, if they do another Fantasia I think this one would be a good inclusion in it.
Mozart - Flute Concerto No. 2
Mozart - Selections from The Magic Flute
Anonnymous - Brian Boru's March, which Galway and his missus did with a bunch of local kids.

At the end of the night it was announced that the DSO's conductor, Leonard Slatkin, was going to be around at least until 2016 and that he was getting married to the composer Cindy McTee on Sunday.

Then there was Champagne:

Lots of Champagne. :)

Last Friday night, I saw Bob Saget in concert.

Had a fantastic time.  Dude is totally off his rocker.  After about an hour of stand up, he sang a few new songs and a couple of classics.  (If you have seen his HBO special you probably know what they were.)  The Hard Rock Live at Universal Orlando is a fantastic venue for comedy shows (also seen Jim Gaffigan and the Kids In The Hall there twice each).

Just came back from Lisa Hannigan playing at St Georges.  She's an Irish singer/songwriter who wrote with Damien Rice before becoming a performer in her own right.  She was kind of amazing (not to mention super cute) and the passion on her face when she sang was reminiscent of someone like Joe Cocker.

A few I've missed -

Johnny Coppin - Local folk guy who was talented but incredibly pesdestrian.  His encore consisted of perhaps the whitest cover of Rockin' Robin I'll ever hear.

Aloe Blacc - The man's cool, has a great voice, and generally wowed the audience.  I felt a little more reserved, primarily because he would talk for ages between songs, droning on and on about "being here, right here, in the moment" and other such drivel.  He also made the audience clap through basically every song.

La Nuova Musica - A classical ensemble who performed Handel's Messiah.  Pretty awesome, I must admit.  Everyone stood for the Halleliujah chorus, and then gave them a huge ovation at the end (though some idiot kept shouting "MORE!").

I've got a whole bunch more coming next year, starting with Fleetwood Mac performing the entire Rumours album.

Went to see the Street Dogs the other night. Boston punk rock at its most Boston. It was a good time. It was an all ages affair so that was a little annoying but I know why they do it. If you aren't familiar with the Street Dogs, they are fronted by the original singer for The Dropkick Murphys and have a lot of the same themes running through their songs as well.

I'm always a little cautious in going to see a young-orientated music act.  Asshole crowds can ruin a performance for me.
