Yeah when my wife and I went to see Brand New with Dashboard Confessional and MxPx we were the oldest people there.

My dad has been to a bunch of P.O.D. shows and he is in his mid-50s.

You shouldn't worry about it.

That is so cool.

I've always thought P.O.D. got kind of a bad rap as yet another super-generic rap metal band. They've put out some great music IMO. I think Payable On Death is a really good album.

The problem is, I feel like I'm too old now to attend a rock or metal concert. The sort of people who attend concerts of the bands I like are mostly teens, and I'm now in my mid 30's. I'd just feel out of place.

I still go to shows and I am 39! I don't go in the pits like I used to but I never feel out of place. You would be surprised the wide range of ages at any given show.

I really think it can depend on when the band was really big.  If you like metal from the 80s and 90s, you will find that there'll be a bunch of people your age there too.  While at classical concerts, most of the audience is about as old as when that was popular too.  ;)

Yeah.  Which is lame because they got a ton of "they're ripping off RATM" even though they both started at pretty much the same time back in 1991.

I got such a kick out of all the "Check out this new band P.O.D.'s first album!" back in 1999 when Fundamental Elements of Southtown came out.  New band? You mean the band I saw about 3 years ago? First album? You mean besides Snuff The Punk, Brown, Live At TomFest, & the Warriors EP (and the re-releases of the first 2) right?  ;)  #nerd

I've hung out with them a few times back in 1997-2001 when they were in New England & got into a bunch of their shows free.  Super nice guys (although the original guitarist was kind of a dick right before he left the band & the guy from Living Sacrifice joined them).

Saw Enslaved last night, killer show even if the openers were like listening to paint dry.

Just got back from Ruarri Joseph's gig.  He was great - kind of like a mix between Cat Stevens and Bob Dylan:

Supporting him was Josh Bray, who sounds like he just emerged from the 70s:

I always used to assume I hated metal, but I never really listened to it.

You're soooo not alone with that statement. Kudos to you for giving it an honest shot - you're ahead of most of the population.

And don't sweat going to shows, they can be rowdy but almost everyone you meet will be friendly. There are some idiots in the metal community, but we're pretty good at isolating the assholes - especially if you're into power and traditional metal, those shows rarely even get stage divers let alone mosh pits.

Yeah. Someone tried starting a pit at an Iron Maiden show and Bruce started yelling at the guy from the stage it was awesome!

I went to see Joe Rogan on Saturday night. Joey Diaz opened up, Brian Redban did a guest set (he needs to do some more open-mic and go on stage more than every so often. It's bad when you go to a place like the Improv and know that you've done better as a newbie than the comic on stage...oh, to have friends in high places) and Brendan Walsh middled. Joey pretty much killed - it was strange hearing that voice in a good mood after hearing him fly off the handle so much on the podcast. Walsh was freaking hilarious - which was kind of a surprise since I always take him for kind of a dick when he's been on the JRE or Marc Maron's show.

Rogan destroyed. Totally and absolutely. All new material and I quite literally could not breathe for most of the show because I was laughing so hard. At one point I don't know if they were laughs or sobs because it actually started to hurt. The topics ran the gamut from tricking a dude into oral sex for a time machine, some light politics, to his wife's reaction to the Fleshlight being a sponsor of his show. It was kind of a big night for me personally as, and this isn't hyperbole, he kind of saved my life and his stand-up & podcast gave me a new direction when things got dangerously dark for me earlier in the year - and the night before I did my first booked, paid, and promoted stand-up gig. I even brought a poster with my name in the featured spot with a thank you note, but didn't get a chance to give it to him...oh well, next time. To put it into perspective for you guys - Joe Rogan is my MST3K.

Just got back from a concert where Martin Simpson performed.  He was really amazing - an old folk singer who came up through the ranks with Fairport Convention and Steeleye Span (whom I'm seeing next month) and who is a great guitarist: one of the best I've seen.  His slide guitar measures up there with Ry Cooder:

Had to go there alone as the perosn I was going fell ill at the last moment, but it ended up not mattering one bit.

That is really cool, Thrash. I don't have anything else to say really. I just think that post deserves recognition.

When Rogan gets on a roll, he can be painfully funny. The Anna Nicole Smith riff springs to mind.
