The Clash
underrated: Bankrobber

Great call, that may be my favorite Clash song.

Soundgarden
Overrated: Black Hole Sun
Underrated: Fell on Black Days

Bob Marley
Overrated: I Shot The Sheriff
Underrated: Redemption Song, Johnny Was, Cry To Me

Black Sabbath
Overrated: Paranoid, Iron Man
Underrated: The Wizard, Tomorrow's Dream, Sabra Cadabra

I'm not saying the overrated songs are bad by any mean, just that they overshadow some of their other songs that were just as good.

Back at'cha. "Redemption Song" is my favorite Bob Marley tune.

BTW, have you ever heard Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme's version of "Black Hole Sun?" It RULES.

The Clash
overrated: London Calling
underrated: Bankrobber

I have to agree, 'London Calling' (both the song and the album) are really overrated. Of course, I think 'Sandinista' is brilliant, tho. :speechless:

I have not heard that version, but have you heard Johnny Cash and Joe Strummer's version of Redemption Song? I've only seen it on Johnny Cash's boxset Unearthed, but it's a great cover.

Keep in mind, it's not that I don't like London Calling (or any of the other songs I listed as overrated); more than anything, it's the tendency to rely on a particular song to define an artist's catalog, rather than the totality of that artist's output, that causes me to place it in the category of "overrated."

I don't like the actual song "London Calling" much at all, and it's kind of their signature tune from their early years. Oh well.

Nirvana
overrated: Smells Like Teen Spirit
underrated: In Bloom

In Bloom gets a fair amount of recognition too though, it's really up there it seems with SLTS, Lithium, and  HSB....

I honestly think whatever that new song that became a huge single was a bit underrated though...  I remember everyone hated it but I thought it was pretty good, but I haven't heard it in a few years...
