I've often dreamed of doing a fan riff.....sadly, I lack a video camera, or even a mic/voice recorder.  But, I could volunteer my services as a writer for anyone who has such technology, and an interest in doing a riff.

Would it just be realistic, freestyle riffing like RiffTrax, or would it be character riffing, like MST3K?  If the latter, I had an idea that involves a suspected terrorist in Guantanamo Bay being forced to watch bad movies as an interrogation technique.

Me too, but I need a partner because it'd be lame by myself. I want to riff Enter the Dragon.

Fun movies are sometimes the most fun to riff.  ;D  A friend and I were watching it on SpikeTV late one night, making little wisecracks whenever we felt like it. I came to an interesting thought: Bruce Lee would suck at sneaking because every time he did something, he'd make those little "hwaa!" noises. I mentioned it, and we spent the next minute doing a "hua... hua.. hwoo-AAA! hee-ooooo...." soundtrack for Bruce as he snuck around the island.

Bruce leaps down stealthily
Me: "Hu-huaah!"

Bruce tiptoes through a dark room
Me (timed to each footstep): "Hua... hua... hua... hua... hua.. hua..."

:D The first time he did the Bruce Lee Jumping Face Smash we burst out laughing because of the look on his face, like he screamed so hard he pooed himself a little. We imitated it for at least 4 hours afterwords.

Your username and signature also made me think.....how about riffing Kull the Conqueror? It was ten times as cheesey as Conan, and less than half as enjoyable.

Could definitely do that too. I also thought about the Dawn of the Dead remake, but it might have a few too many kernels of humor in it and throw a wrench in attempts to riff it (it deserves it, though).

Probably the way I'd go about riffing is the same they they wrote jokes for MST - watch it a few times, write down good jokes and the time they correspond to, then compile them together and record a riff.

I'd have a particularly easy time riffing any of the movies I listed in the top 10 most riffable films in another topic; particularly G.I. Samurai and Death Mask of the Ninja, since a friend and myself effectively riffed those two movies all the way through, which is difficult to do by improv alone.  But some movies, like those, just lend themselves particularly well to riffing.

And obscure pop-culture references or complicated humor isn't always necessary for a great riff.....some of my favorite riffs of all time were when M&tBs would just bust out laughing at something or someone.

I kinda made a riff of the movie Smokey and the Bandit 3... but not technically.

I have this film series on YouTube, but Episode 7 is the only one I've spoken in so far...

To not make a Three's Company joke there is pretty much criminal.
