"My name is ___ and I rented 'Glitter'"
« on: May 21, 2007, 06:42:12 PM »
What sufferings did you endure for the sake of the latest RiffTrax? Share your tales of woe here!

As for me, I have been justly punished for my arrogance. I went breezily into Blockbuster's, thinking nothing of enduring five seconds' worth of raised eyebrows from a clerk. I found no Glitter in Drama. Then I checked New Releases, because generally half the "New Releases" aren't even new. I was starting to search for Musicals when an employee asked if she could help.

Horrible moment of indecision: Did I dare confess? And yet if I didn't, I might not get to enjoy my RiffTrax.

Me (with self-deprecating grin): Actually, I'm looking for "Glitter."
Employee (leading the way toward the computer): Let me see . . . isn't that an old movie?
Me (suppressing the memory of many nights in front of Turner Classic Movies and resisting the urge to yell, "OLD!?"): Um, well, oldish . . .
Employee: More than a year?
Me (thinking, "How should I know?"): I . . . guess . . . so . . .
Employee: Wasn't that that crappy movie with . . .
Me (turning bright red, with weak laugh): Yeah, well, actually, it's for RiffTrax -- I don't know if you've heard of it -- it's kinda like "Mystery Science Theater" . . .
Employee (looking at computer): We don't carry it.

(And honestly, who could blame them?)

So I went through all that and I DIDN'T get to enjoy my RiffTrax. Should've just stuck with Netflix in the first place. Well, I've learned my lesson -- never again will I mock those who fear to rent a DVD for RiffTrax. I feel your pain from now on.

Ah, Mike and Mary Jo, the things you've made me do . . .

Okay, fellow support groupies, now it's your turn! How was your Glitter rental/buying experience?

Best part about working in a video store, get to search the computer yourself.

Though we don't have it either so I have to go check another one...  If I can find that kid again who's been putting Rifftrax stickers on DVDs maybe I can con him into taking the blockbuster online free trial and letting me borrow it or watch it with him

It cost me $6 to buy a copy of Glitter including shipping and it came in a plain brown wrapper.  Buying so you can watch films whenever is the way to go.

HA! Luckily I was able to get my sister to rent Glitter for me.

Funny thing too, because she said that even she was embarrassed to pickit up.

Maybe I should go to Blockbuster dressed as a Viking or maybe a Vegas showgirl, that way renting Glitter would be the least strange thing going on and no one would comment on it.

See, things like this is why free Netflix accounts need to be issued at birth.

I, too, am very thankful for the relative anonymity of my Netflix account.  But, alas, I tremble at the thought of what their system will now try to recommend for me...  based on my combined interest in Glitter, Animaniacs and Steve McQueen movies.  I can see the smoke pouring out of the server now.
Damn thing already keeps trying to get me to rent Daddy Day Care.  Yeah, that'll happen.

Yes, mine too.  Either all the copies have been rented out by Rifftrax listeners, or Netflix just realized they had copies of Glitter and decided to destroy them.

i didn't see it at first at Blockbuster so i had to ask!  I said, " I know this sounds strange...but do you have Glitter?"

The girl didn't even look phased, like people ask for Glitter every day!

it was so great!  Please have Mary Jo do more.  I loved her in MST3K and I love her in Rifftrax!

Also please do more chick flicks like this.  they are definitely the funniest!

this sounds mean but I was cheering when Mr. DJ of the Year got shot.  I hated him every second he was on the screen.  Such a fake NY accent!!!
