Summer Glau: Hot.

Lena Headey: Hot.

Terminators: Badass.

Special Effects: Killer.

And watching Summer Glau kick large men's asses is ALWAYS fun; it should have its own cable network.

And now, the related comic image:

Personally, I liked it. And the rationale for the time change wasn't bad either. (Even though PS238 did that a few years back. But I don't think they're getting their ideas from there.) I'll keep watching for a while.

aside from the River Tam part, it sort of sounds like a conversation before the creation of AVP:R

I saw the pilot this summer and watched the new version last night.  They made some minor tweaks here and there.  Nothing major, but the bigger changes I noticed was the fiancee character is played by a different, more manly actor, and added 2 short scenes where Sarah and John had a one on one talk with the Rivernator.

I also realized that I actually kind of liked the first bad guy Terminator in Sarah's dream.  He seemed like a bulked up Liam Neeson.  I'm glad to have noticed this time around the other Terminator had his head blown off when he got blasted at the end, so I think we're rid of that dude and we'll get a different actor, hopefully.  Probably not such a great idea leaving around Terminator parts, super BFG gun, and a time-travel machine lying around after they left though.

But the Summer Glau model is "different." She sure seems to emote better. (Not PERFECTLY, but better.) What upgrades are on this model? We'll have to watch and find out.

My brief review:
So yeah, it won't be touted as the smartest series in the world. Not even the smartest series on FOX, but it looks like it's gonna be a fun ride, and that's what I want from a Terminator show. Eagerly awaiting Part 2 tonight. (Tyrant, if you read this, remember to tape it. :^))

I get the impression she's a newer model.  Somewhere between T-1000 and the TX.  The one in Sarah's dream had a different skeleton structure that almost looked slightly more primitive.  Might explain why she kept kicking his ass at every turn.

Hmm, found this interesting tidbit on wikipedia.  Explains why one of the scenes was cut from the original unaired pilot.

Quote
Fox Entertainment Chariman Peter Liguori said that certain aspect of the pilot, involving a Terminator posing as a teacher attacking John at school, would be changed following the shooting at Virginia Tech.  Although the shooting remained in the series premier, a scene showing students dealing with the aftermath as FBI Agent Ellison surveys the damage was removed.

Also, the regular bad guy Terminator is Garret Dillahunt.  Probably the most notable role he's had was Francis Wolcott in Deadwood.  He was the sick bastard who was violent towards women.  He also played Jack McCall who was the one who shot Wild Bill.

I'm not sure.  They'll definitely have one of those "previously on [insert name of the show here]" clip montages to get the viewer up to speed.

As for the series itself, I found the first episode fairly enjoyable.  Elements of it were a bit "familiar," but only to the extent that it establishes some sort of connection to the Terminator films.  I liked that they chose to skip the whole "exposition" thing.  They essentially decided to take the "Haven't seen the movies? Well, fuck you," approach.  It allowed them to fit more show into the show.
Correction: the coat hanger should be upside down.

I riffed this for about half an hour. Then I had to stop. It was just too good. (Forgive me, Jesus.) I still prefer the concept of the first movie: a woman being hunted for the son she hasn't had yet. They carried that into T2 quite well with Miles Dyson being hunted for the technology he hadn't created yet. It was great seeing his family in this, although his son must have Webster disease as he didn't seem to have aged. But as soon as they had Reese become John's father, logic went out the window, and now it's a ridiculous implausible mess. At least it's fun.

I was disappointed to see Brandan Molale playing a dumb cop with no lines in a dream sequence. What a pointless waste. HELLO... (Whispers: Terminator!) He is credited as "Big Cop." I want to punch this show for wasting the greatest potential terminator around. WTF were they thinking? Maybe they'll wait a season and then bring him back as another character like X-Files did with Krycek.

I want a hot lady robot. Seems kind of sick if you think about the fact that the machines designed a hot teenage girl terminator to infiltrate their smelly barracks full of grizzled old rebel soldiers. :speechless:

Actually, it's quite possible that such a thing could happen.  Traveling through time creates an ALTERNATE timeline (effectively an alternate universe).  Originally, John Connor's formative years were likely far more ordinary.  He also in all likelihood had a different father.  Ever see Back to the Future?  Doc Brown'll explain it all.

I enjoyed the two episodes that they've shown.  Summer Glau is awesome and should be required in every episode to employ some kind of martial arts to beat people up.  Fights between Terminators are pretty dull though.

I agree.  After the first episode, I wasn't QUITE sure about whether the whole series would be worth watching, but after watching the second one, I've decided that it kicks ass.

Problem with that is that in order for it all to happen and make sense, Reese would not only have had to travel back in time, but jump across to a different timeline as well.

Uh, yeah, he had a different father. That's like Marvel saying in an alternate universe, Nick Fury is a black guy with an entirely different lineage, yet somehow has the same traits, acquaintances, name, and job as the other Nick Fury.
