Now Available - The Last Man on Earth

Ah, The Last Man on Earth. Of all the adaptations of Richard Matheson’s novel I Am Legend, there’s no denying that this was the earliest. And the Vincent Price-iest!

Our man Vincent has come a long way from the House on Haunted Hill where he made a skeleton dance with puppet strings. Now he lives in a much smaller house, nowhere near a hill, battling madness and endless swarms of vampire-zombies. He’s living a life of isolation after a global plague carried through the air has infected the world’s population - can you even imagine??? (Yeah, don’t answer that.)

Now The Last Man on Earth spends most of his time gathering mirrors, garlic, and wooden stakes, because this disease is courteous enough to follow the rules of classic Transylvanian vampires. When he’s not barricading himself against the inevitable or hurling bodies into pits, he likes to sit down with a projector, watch old home movies and cry-laugh himself to sleep. Kind of like how we spend our time at RiffTrax!

Join us for some vintage Vincent at the end of the world, won’t you? It’s Mike, Kevin, Bill, and The Last Man on Earth!

Written by: Mike Nelson, Bill Corbett, Conor Lastowka, and Sean Thomason

Contributing writers: Jason Miller and Zach Shatzer

Wow, the book "I Am Legend" is way older than I realized. 1954. I thought they were kidding when they said this was an adaptation of it, but nope, it really is.

Now I have to ask, how old did you think it was? I think the first super popular film adaptation was Omega Man with Charlton Heston (if you don't include Night of the Living Dead).

I saw this years ago and enjoyed it. But I am a big Price fan. This is him carrying a film on his shoulders.

Given that it involves vampire zombies, I figured it was fairly recent. 90s, maybe 80s, 70s at the earliest.

The book is by Richard Matheson who wrote many Twilight Zone eps, orginal series and lots of other stuff. I do like this movie. Hammy at times but enjoyable. Looking forward to buying the riff at the next sale as finally got my covid check!
