Red sailor suit is short-"lived"?
« on: October 22, 2007, 09:40:46 PM »
"As a fashion trend, the red sailor suit was deservedly short lived."

Are my ears playing a trick on me or am I hearing Mike say "short LIVED" (as in "LIVE from New York," but only with a "d" at the end).  Is this a regional way of saying this?

Btw, this is a riff on Violet's (first) outfit she wears.  The line comes in at 21:54.

Consequently, the funniest line in the whole RiffTrax for me is the very next riff (on Sam B.):  "Back then, being maggot-gaggingly ugly was not an impediment to being an actor."  I was laughing for about 5 minutes straight on that one!

...

My girlfriend and I noticed that too. It must be a regional way of saying that, but i'm originally from Iowa/Missouri and i've never heard anyone else from the Midwest say it that way. Then again, Mike always says sequel like sea-kwell, which is weird too~

Ya' know, it could be one of those things where you start doing it on purpose as a joke or something and then eventually, that's actually how you say it. Or he's just different then us, and we should all fear and hate him because of it.

think it is regional. Kinda of like the "in line for a movie" vs "on line for a movie"

Pre-kwell also comes up a lot with Mike.  That's the one I noticed first.

I haven't noticed how Mike says "karaoke."  How does he say it?

He says "Ka-row-key" as opposed to "Carry-o-key"

I'm bad with phonetic spelling, but maybe you can get my drift :)

Wow... he DOES say it "ka-ROW-key," doesn't he?  On the same topic, I just listened to the "Next" RiffTrax and Bridgette Nelson ALSO says "pre-kwell."  Makes me wonder if she picked it up from him.  Hmmm...

Hate to break it to you guys, but short-lived with a long "i" is technically correct.  Nobody actually says it that way in casual conversation, unless they value correctness over friends.

"Ka-row-key", though, that's just crazy talk.
