LIST OF CRAP #120
TOP 50 FICTIONAL TALKING ANIMALS

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/tHK18m3Tk0c" target="_blank" class="new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/tHK18m3Tk0c</a>

Fake animals speak fluent English.  This is a fact.  We all learned this at a very young age.

But nobody has ever in recorded history ranked these communicative critters…until now…!

I wanted this momentous LOC hosted by Mickey Rat but he took the cash and ran.  Who knows maybe he’ll show up later...

Anyhow, we have from a total of 15 lists 179 distinct fictional animal voices.

Yes, we have a plethora of ties.  So much so the first 25 or so of the top 50 will necessarily be abbreviated.

I admit, I screwed up the rules a bit.  Duos, trios, and others defy easy classification; some duos aren’t technically duos while some duos don’t lend well to being separated in a top 50 list with a huge amount of tie scores.  I tried to clarify the rules and bounced back several lists but I got sick of that and just figured oh well not everyone’s going to be super happy.  I decided to group and separate duos and trios and small groups where it makes sense.  I’ll try to make up for the distortion of your carefully selected entries in the writeups as well as I can.

I’ll be posting several YouTubes.  I strongly recommend you get the YouTube Ad Auto-Skipper Addon

For Chrome:

or Firefox:

AND NOW let’s get our beaks wet with the lowest scoring entry Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy!

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/kD3qacC0Tdg" target="_blank" class="new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/kD3qacC0Tdg</a>

Do I hear the influence of Jimmy Durante in that voice?  Umbriago!

A dachshund father-and-son team. Doggie Daddy (voiced by Doug Young) tried to do the best he could at raising his rambunctious son Augie (voiced by Daws Butler). Augie Doggie, who loved his father, would often refer to him as "dear old Dad." Their mutual admiration included Daddy gently chiding, "Augie, my son, my son", when he would disappoint his father; and when his son would say or do something that inspired pride, Daddy would turn to the audience and say with a grin, "Dat's my boy”!

Ooh…a Daws Butler mention already.  Now that’s class!  Tip o’ the hat to RVR II for his #25 Doggie Daddy.

Daws Butler

Date Of Birth: Nov 16, 1916
Birth Place: Toledo, Ohio, United States
Date Of Death: May 18, 1988

Onward!

I was wondering why I had Barnabus so high.  I mean, I like him enough to put him on my list, but...

AND NOW let’s get our beaks wet with the lowest scoring entry Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy!

The whole wet my beak thing is one of my favorite phrases, always fun to say. I just wanna wet my beak a little bit. I like to say it like Robert DeNiro or something. It is said in Godfather 2, but by some other actor not DeNiro.

Dino
(Flinstones)  #16 RVR II

Dino doesn’t talk!  AFAIK.  However, in S01E18 “The Snorkasaurus Hunter” we see Dino’s origin where he DOES speak!  Strange there’s no continuity to explain the existence of his voice…And what a strange voice.  A mish-mash of Phil Silvers, intermittent french flair, and a touch of latin trill?  Curious.

“The Flinstones residence.  Mrs flinstone?  One moment please. It’s for you madame.”

Earl and Mooch

Happy

 <a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/1HVMWxl6CR4" target="_blank" class="new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/1HVMWxl6CR4</a>

Happy is a small blue Exceed with a white underbelly.  He loves fish more than anything else, and he doesn't like dogs (except for Plue). He offers a comic relief with his catchphrase, "Aye!" or "Aye Sir!"…(?)
“Aye!  Aye Sir!”

Master Shifu
(Kung Fu Panda)  #16 MartyS (Gromit)
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/uP7O2mM10A" target="_blank" class="new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/uP7O2mM10A</a>

Master Shifu (redundant?) is a talking red panda and senior master of the Jade Palace Restaurant and trains his students to be the “best of the best”.  He is quite often angered, frustrated, despairing or worried.  Voiced by Dustin Hoffman?!?!  Cool!
“I’m not dying you idiot!  I’m relaxing!”

McGruff the Crime Dog
(Ad Council PSA spokesanimal)  #16 PsychoGoatee
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/rxLD1uq94sE" target="_blank" class="new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/rxLD1uq94sE</a>

Cartoon bloodhound who ruins fun.  McGruff proved to be a successful campaign with over $100 million in free air time donated in the first year reaching over 50% of adults. McGruff campaigns continued over the years to cover topics such as child abduction, robbery, anti-drug messages, and anti-bullying campaigns. From 1982 to 2012, a number of municipalities participated in the McGruff house program which offered temporary haven to children fearing immediate harm. McGruff has continued to be well recognized with nine out of ten people recognizing him in a 2008 survey and recent campaigns against cyber-bullying and elder-crime.

I loved the early Mutts strips, and had the first couple of collections, but it lost steam for me later (whether that was because it was repeating itself or the jokes just weren't as funny) but for a spell there, I loved it. It had a colorful cast of characters and I liked the simple sketchy art.

So I had them, Bambi and Caesar (#21) on my list from this group. I didn't have any Aristocats (forgot all about them), so it's cool Cole got (at least) one from that flick on here.

Goofy Gophers
(WB cartoons)  #15 Johnny Unusual
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/3o8zQBF8NmI" target="_blank" class="new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/3o8zQBF8NmI</a>

Mac and Tosh are two ultrapolite gophers with British accents.  A spoof of Disney’s Chip n’ Dale?  Hmmm… The krux of these characters is the ridiculousness of the characters' overpoliteness frequently preventing their ability to get on with the task at hand.  Great choice!
"We must take vital steps to reclaim our property.  Indubitably!”

Jiminy Cricket
(Pinnochio)  #15 George-2.0
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/Foa3reEutzw" target="_blank" class="new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/Foa3reEutzw</a>

Originally an unnamed, minor character who gets killed by Pinocchio before reappearing as a ghost in the original novel, he was transformed in the Disney version into a comical and wise partner who accompanies Pinocchio on his adventures, having been appointed  by the Blue Fairy to serve as Pinocchio's official conscience.
"Pretty, huh? I'll bet a lot of you folks don't believe that. About a wish coming true? Well, I didn't either. Of course, I'm just a cricket singing my way from hearth to hearth, but let me tell you what made me change my mind."

Mr Fox
(Fantastic Mr Fox)  #15 Cjones, #11 MartyS (Gromit)
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/AEocciZMBjc" target="_blank" class="new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/AEocciZMBjc</a>
An urbane fox cannot resist returning to his farm raiding ways and then must help his community survive the farmers' retaliation.   George Clooney has a nice distinctive voice for this animated puppet.  Sadly this movie has lain unwatched in my pile o’ movies for ten years and I can’t explain why.
“Redemption? Sure. But in the end, he's just another dead rat in a garbage pail behind a Chinese restaurant.”

Nemo
(Finding Nemo)  #15 MartyS (Gromit)
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/9RhX3lRJQMg" target="_blank" class="new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/9RhX3lRJQMg</a>

Nemo is a young and cheerful clownfish who lives in the Great Barrier Reef, and is eager to explore life around the ocean, but his father Marlin is overprotective of him due to a barracuda attack that killed his mother.
"Anemonny, anemoneni... Anemonemeony...."

Sylvester the Cat
(WB cartoons)  #15 RVR II
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/MYhCvVyDnfw" target="_blank" class="new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/MYhCvVyDnfw</a>

Sylvester J. Pussycat Sr., usually called Sylvester, is a fictional character, a three-time Academy Award-winning anthropomorphic Tuxedo cat in the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series of cartoons. Most of his appearances have him often chasing Tweety, Speedy Gonzales, or Hippety Hopper, and is placed squarely in the “loser” column of the WB cartoons winner/loser hierarchy.
"Sufferin' succotash. What a perfect time for me to go on a diet."
