Ghostbusters 3 (summer 2020)
« on: January 27, 2019, 03:39:54 PM »
This looks like it's intended to be the original sequel that was stuck in development hell for so long, disregarding any "Ghost Corps" material like the reboot.

Hopefully it's a earnest direction change for a damaged (but possibly salvageable) brand.

Could just be a coincidence, though.  I mean in regards to it and the stuck in development hell one.

That's also plausible since (AFAIK) Jason Reitman was never attached to it until now.  Another Sony hack would be enlightening, as the vid notes.

Jason has been saying how he never intended to touch Ghostbusters, always doing his own thing. But now he's feeling it, and they have an idea that they feel work (him and whoever he's been writing with), so sounds like it's a somewhat recent take, at least with him. Though I know it's been pitched before.

I just listened to his recent podcast with Kevin Smith, pre-Ghostbusters announcement, but a good listen. Makes me root for him, and he has enough experience under his belt that I think it's a solid choice to give him the keys to the car.

WTF?! We can't tell from this how primary these characters will be in the upcoming movie, but it seems like having new Ghostbusters who can't even drive Ecto-1 might be a bad idea.
They did this Junior Ghostbusters idea in the later seasons of the 90s Real Ghostbuster cartoon and it was annoying and pointless.

This has Timmy Bobby Rusty written all over it.

Doesn't really confirm that they're the Ghostbusters. Just that there's a lead part for a tween boy and girl.

Not to do with the movie, but Mattel just announced a line of WWF/Ghostbuster figures.

The series will consist of Steve Austin, John Cena, The Rock, Shawn Michaels and a glow in the dark Undertaker.

Well, that is better than mixing up Transformers and Star Wars I must say.

Sony and Jason Reitman are also currently casting two of the young leads which include the roles a 13-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl. The unnamed teenage boy character is described as a conspiracy theorist that is really into fantasy. The pre-teen girl certainly sounds like a Jason Reitman character, for sure, a science kid that has trouble connecting with others on an emotional level, understanding feelings and not be aware how hurtful her comments can be.

Doesn't really confirm that they're the Ghostbusters. Just that there's a lead part for a tween boy and girl.

It's hard to know what to make of that.  They sound like Mulder and Scully, which would be an excellent dynamic for a pair of (older) Ghostbusters.  Maybe these are younger versions for use in flashbacks.
