Maybe it's because I've never seen that episode and don't know it in context, but when I see the video clip of them doing that, it's funny, but I don't get why it's so hilarious to so many people.

Except those rights issues probably have less to do with Toho and more to do with Sandy Frank who did the awful dubs and importing various Japanese films and shows.  He still has the distribution rights and was either offended by the mockery directed at him or simply raised the price of the rights to those films, depending on who you believe.

According to Brian Ward of Shout Factory! Sandy Frank has nothing to do with the licensing. It is all dictated by the Japanese studio and they already said no to the MST3K treatments.

That's when Shout! needs to do the Rhino method and release a whole box set of the Sandy Frank episodes.... and then recall it once we all are done scrambling to get it.
...and there he was, reigning supreme at number two.  The One... The Only... The Unabeefer.

I got the burned DVDs from Cheepins to cover the episodes without actual releases.

Between the Rhino VHS, the eps I recorded off of Sci-Fi Channel, and the eps I got off the interbutt from Myspleen.com, I think I've got about 90-95% of the show here...

I have a complete original MST3K collection (minus the 11 episodes not released on dvd), w/ all dvd releases out side of the volume collections w/ bonus footage and extras, w/ all limited & collectors edition volume versions, w/ The original Essentials w/ bonus disc, all the original Rhino single episode dvds, Rhinos Amazing Colossal Man on VHS (only official release of ep. 309), The Movie on Blu-ray and dvd, All Film Crew dvds, and a bootleg collection of the 11 episodes not released on dvd... So what might be the value of my collection?

If you found the right seller, or lots of right sellers, you could make a substantial pile. A boatload, perhaps. Beaucoup bucks, even!

I don't know the answer, but I'm sitting on a similar fortune. (Although I'm jealous of your Amazing Colossal Man VHS..)

It depends on how you want to sell it. If you split it up, you'll make more. If you sell it as a lot, the price will be comparatively lower, because people who just want set X won't bid as much for everything.
