I both remember watching Captain N and have no memory of a Gameboy robot. Best of both worlds I guess?

HK-47 and BMO were both on my short list before I gave up on coming up with a list. Sorry Johnny  :-[

The Gameboy character came in to the series later, and was just a blatant addition to promote the Gameboy.

Baymax

44 Points, 3 of 15 Lists, Top vote: #4 Cole Stratton

Program Nursing, Saving the World

Baymax is a robot that appears in Marvel Comics and, more famously, the Disney animated feature film Big Hero 6.  In the film, Baymax is an inflatible robot with a carbon fiber skeleton created by Tadashi Yamada to be a healthcare provider.  He is later re-discovered by boy genius and Tadashi's little brother Hiro.  When Hiro discovers a nefarious plot, he has Baymax fitted with special armor to help him stop the villains plot.  Hiro and Baymax form the superhero team "Big Hero 6" in order to save the day.

Baymax is extremely gentle by the nature of his design and is constantly concerned with the health and welfare of others.  Hiro was able to program him to fight, but when his healthcare program is removed, he is shown to be surprisingly dangerous.  Though initially emotionless, Baymax slowly develops his own personality and a deep caring for Hiro.  Though he can fight, due to his calm, nurturing nature, Baymax tends to perfer non-violent solutions, when possible.

Trivia The inflatable, vinyl, truly huggable design of Baymax is inspired by 'soft robotics' research at Carnegie Mellon University.

Gort

46 Points, 4 of 15 Lists, Top vote: #4 George 2.0

Program Maintaining order

Gort is a robot from the movie The Day the Earth Stood Still.  Gort is a member of a race of robots who act as an interstellar police force.  Extremely powerful, these machines are designed to be deterrents against interplanetary agression.  He accompanies Klaatu, a representative of an interplanetary confederation to Earth on a mission of peace but also to warn against agression.  When Klaatu is accidentally shot by a jumpy soldier, he is seperated from Gort.  Klaatu warns that Gort will begin an attack unless a special message is given to him.

Gort is made from a single piece of flexible metal and is nearly invincible.  Gort follows verbal commands but despite this, he and his race are firmly in control.  Klaatu claims that should Gort wish it, he could destroy the Earth with ease and has a laser that can disintegrate weapons and tanks and can do so without harming their users.  Gort is also able to determine where Klaatu is at all times, without need for tracking devices.

Trivia The role of Gort was played by Lock Martin, the doorman from Grauman's Chinese Theater, because he was extremely tall. However, he was unable to pick up Helen because he was so weak and had to be aided by wires (in shots from the back where he's carrying her, it's actually a lightweight dummy in his arms). He also had difficulty with the heavy Gort suit and could only stay in it for about a half hour at a time.

ED-209

49 Points, 3 of 15 Lists, Top vote: #3 Darth Geek

Program Policing

Enforcement Droid Series 209, better known as ED-209, is a robot that appears in the Robocop franchise.  It was the pet project of Omni Consumer Products Senior Vice President Dick Jones with the intention that it would be used as a robot police officer.  However, during the demonstration, the ED-209 brutally murdered another employee due to a malfunction, resulting in the chairman of Omni Consumer Products shelving the ED-209 in favour of Robocop.  Dick Jones has his own ED-209 ready when Robocop came to arrest him for his criminal activities.

The ED-209 is a giant death machine loaded to the gills with powerful weaponry.  However, the machine is also constantly malfunctioning, resulting in, as mentioned before, accidental murdering.  In addition, though it is powerful, it is relatively dumb and has difficulty maneauvering.  This is largely to do with the fact that to make it more affordable, corners were cut everywhere. Despite it's many flaws, the ED-209 would later be used in many American cities, though often seen guarding OCP offices.

Trivia Enforcement Droid 209's voice is that of producer Jon Davison, its growls are of a jaguar, and its squeals are of a pig. ED-209's body was based on the design of a Bell helicopter and the overall appearance is reminiscent of a line of toys named Robotech (1985) which were based on a 1980s Japanese anime series.

It seems like the guy could have outrun ED-209 pretty easily.
I'm not particularly religious, and I don't really like Muppets, but I do love word play.

Mega Man

49 Points, 4of 15 Lists, Top vote: #2 Psycho Goatee

Program Fighting Robots

Mega Man (AKA Rockman) is a robot protagonist of the Mega Man video game series.  Mega Man was originally created to be a lab assistant for the scientist Dr. Light.  When Dr. Light's robots were taken over by the evil Dr. Wily, Light transformed the robot into a warrior to battle the others and defeat Dr. Wily.  He succeeded but Wily returned again and again, only to be defeated every time by Mega Man.

Mega Man is equipped with a gun called the "Mega Buster", but his true strength lies in being able to copy the ability of any defeated Robot Master.  In addition, he's been known to get help from his robot dog Rush.  Mega Man also has a sister named Roll and later discovered that he had a brother, Proto Man, who at first appears to be an enemy, only to reveal he's been training him.  The Mega Man video games have a long history with the most recent being set to be released this year.

Trivia Many of the recurring Mega Man characters have music related names.  Mega Man's original name is Rock, Proto Man was originally called Blues and later Mega Man gains an ally named Bass.

I'm wondering if I am the only person who put any real robots on his list.
