Long time watcher, first time riffer
« on: February 20, 2017, 02:29:10 PM »
Hello everyone.   I was wondering if anyone would be interested in seeing my goofy take on the old 50's TV show, The Lone Ranger... I was hoping to do a 4 episode run of fun making on my YouTube page.  I have several friends watching, and while that's wonderful, they're my friends. (And frankly, they are only "several") I may get a "oh that's nice" but no positive reinforcement or helpful feedback.  So, I need help.  I'm nervous about this because we all love RiffTrax, we're all used to RiffTrax, and watching something other than Bill, Kevin and Mike do has proven difficult... Unless it's Mary Jo and Bridgett.  I love their chemistry and their laughs are infectious.

This is a hobby.  But I guess it's more than that, it's an out lit for creativity.  I get to write and edit audio and video again, something that I've been missing in my life for years now. And I'd like some honest feedback.  These are non-monetized due to potential licensing, and it seems kind of dickish to monetize that kind of stuff.  Plus, with the stuff I do have "Monetized", I'm not getting anything from Google for because my stats are very low.

I also have a couple of old school shorts that I added some fun making too.
Here's the films!

I learned today that Dreamworks Distribution has marked my Lone Ranger funny as copyrighted. They acquired the LR License in 2012 from Classic Media.  So THEY may monetize the upload, but I did not.  Funny enough it was Dreamworks Animation dept. that grabbed the rights.

In the next few weeks I hope to start tackling the old serial Flash Gordon.  If you can believe it, it was filmed in 1936!   So the makeup will be caked on, the special effects practical and fun to watch, and the acting with be... well.. AAAACTINGGGGG!!!!  Thanks for allowing this out lit for creativity on your website, RiffTrax.

Well, I've done it.  I've done my first 20 min film with Flash Gordon.  My god his voice... his voice is IN-SANE.  And I'm going to listen to it for at least 13 more episodes.

Here's the link to the first video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzkWHpEFwaM&list=PLU3NC1rS0D0J8BiNfApZZcxKaskgFZU8G

Bonus, here's the look at the thumbnail from it that I've posted.  It's unfortunate that you don't get to see it at a decent size...

And the thumbnail from an episode of the Lone Ranger.

Thanks everyone!

If anyone can believe it, I've got 4 "making fun of's" with Flash Gordon!  I just uploaded number 4 today.  I'm really enjoying the working I'm doing... not enjoying the writers block I suffered for a week though.  Nothing would come up.  I was a blank slate half way through episode 4.  But I'm having fun, and I hope you are as well.

Please enjoy!

Episode 5 of the Flash Gordon series - The Destroying Ray is up and aching to be watched!  Hawk Men are finally introduced, and the jury is still out on if the Prince Vultan character has the legs of Brian Blessed.

Watched the Lone Ranger riffs,  and the two riffed shorts,  not long ago, and liked them a lot. Well-paced for the most part, with a good number of laugh-out-loud moments. You definitely have the chops for this!

Thank you for those kind words!  I love doing these.  It's a great creative out lit and it's very therapeutic.  I loved doing the Lone Ranger, and may go back and do a couple of more to clear my head of the Flash Gordon madness... but these Flash Gordon serials have been as fun as they have been taxing.

Having said that!

Flash Gordon chapter 6, Flaming Torture!

Tossed into the fiery depths of King Vultan's furnace, our pasty hero's toes finally dry out; saving them from a fate worse than gherkins.  It's afterthought dubbing on a massive scale when Flash is faced with Flaming Torture.

Thanks everyone for your continued support for my work.  The producers of this serial are getting stingy on time and cutting out intros and outtros to save theater time.  But it's still great fun to do these for all of you!  Please leave a like if you've enjoyed the series, and stay tuned next week for the continuing adventures!

Flash Gordon Serial 1 Ep 7 Shattering Doom

https://youtu.be/bha8cIZX9g4

Princess Aura continues in her plot to drive a wedge between Flash and Dale... But they're not buying it.  It's sensible to think it's either because they constantly see through her rouse, or the pace of the serial doesn't allow for ample time for them to buy it.  Either way, we are heading towards Shattering Doom!

Finally caught up on the Flash Gordon serial episodes, and have been loving them so far.  The first serial is the one I'm most familiar with, since I used to have it on VHS, and it's been fun going through them again with your riffing.  Are you going to do all the serials, or just the first one?

My plan before I got my new job was to do all of them.  Whereas that's still my plan, it's going to be a long haul.  I've had to walk away for a couple of weeks to get this job thing settled....  I hope to have a rhythm going again (as well as a sleep schedule... ) to continue going with, at the very LEAST, Space Soldiers.

I have the rest of the serials on my hard drive.  And I totally want to do them.  Real life is a real bummer.

Personal question!  Did you like it when my Ming character was in the control room at the beginning of an episode?  That's the only one that's received a thumbs down... from someone in Israel???  Thumbs downs without explanation hit me hard.

Yeah, life has a way of doing that.  :P

The intro to 6... yeah, I liked that one!  Your Ming kind of has an Invader Zim voice, if Zim was a cranky 80-year old.  :)

He's my take on The Monarch without the butter in his voice.  More shrill.

Like Aura is more of a gruff Dr Girlfriend.

I really enjoyed that skit... and then the dude thumbsed me down and I'm like "aww... that must not be very good then"....

I wouldn't necessarily be upset at a thumbs down...you can't please everybody.  I know my Alien iRiff trailer got a thumbs down, but I think that was more because I riffed Alien as opposed to anything that I did as a joke in the trailer.  I don't know, though...Youtube is sketchy on details sometimes.  But reach is always good, thumbs up or down.  I remember finding a blog where a English teacher in Korea found my Hackers riff and reviewed it, and I couldn't have been happier (it did help that he enjoyed it, but still, Korea).

Life does find a way to make things difficult, but I find a deadline, as tough as it may be, sometimes helps me to finish things.  For instance, I've often said while I had two jobs that I was too busy to do a riff.  Now, I'm doing the two for the Mystery shorts, and now that I have a deadline, I'm working towards finishing them both, and while I am currently winding down one job to focus on the other, I am also in the midst of finding another house this month due to twins coming in October.

It's all in a grand scheme of making things more difficult on myself. ;)

But keep at it, if it's what you enjoy; if it's something you have fun with, thumbs downs AND tough times will be something you can work around.  Just do it in a way that doesn't burn yourself out.  And that's my positive statement for the day.

There are a LOT of people who will downvote you simply for having the audacity to riff something while not being Mike, Kevin, or Bill. Don't worry about it.
