Plowing through The Silmarillion a couple years ago turned me off Middle Earth for a while, so I haven't read any of Christopher Tolkien's books. How do they read, in general?

Also, yuck on that trailer. Could the ad copy sound any less Tolkieny?

well you know its gonna be bad ass, it was published on my b-day

but its supposedly NOT christopher tolkein.  according to chris its him just editing his fathers stuff into one coherent story.  supposedly its 90% JRR with a few transitions written by his son.  Its the first full story since his death and that includes the similirilian.

Doesn't that describe pretty much every Middle Earth book with Christopher Tolkien's name on it?

Weak-willed housewives everywhere will run out to buy every book that has a Mike sticker on it, only to leave them on the coffee table and pretend they read them, using what little they gleaned of the plot from Mike.

I see Oprah is recommending Tolstoy's Anna Karenina. I'm imagining hundreds of housewives throwing themselves before oncoming trains.

Well, not really. But I am imagining thousand of housewives buying a book they have no intention of reading just because Oprah told them too.

If I wrote a book, and sales suddenly skyrocketed because Oprah commanded her mindless hordes to go buy it... well, worse things could happen, I guess, but I'd still feel kind of icky.
