San Diego Comic Con News 2016
« on: July 21, 2016, 10:16:37 AM »
Just a file for the random stuff coming out of SDCC this year.

Brian Lee O'Malley (Scott Pilgrim) announced a new trilogy called "Worst World." Looks to be LA rock band centric-y.

Modiphius (the folks who make Achtung! Cthulhu) announced a new Star Trek pen and paper RPG. Why they announced this at SDCC instead of, say, Gen Con which is 2 weeks away, is beyond me but it's on the way.

Cartoon Network has some fun:

The Conan O'Brien booth:

Yeah, that's not creepy at all.

Need Darth Vader's head from Episode 7?

$3500 to be just like Kylo Ren

Anyone here watch Blind Spot?  Is it any good?  Haven't seen it myself. The crew is great though.

And this:

Minor gripe.Hey Netflix? You know what works better than "Come as You Are" to the line "you can't even save yourself?"

That's wasn't a very flattering Luke Cage sequence, pretty flat. Not familiar with Iron Fist.

They went with a scene from the show instead of a trailer, I'd rather that myself because it eliminates spoilers. Plus Wu-Tang!

I'm wondering now if it was rushed for CC.

I thought so too. And why did he have the car door as a shield if he was bulletproof anyway?

Yeah?  Might have to check it out then.  Here are some spoilers for the second season:  The FBI play some sort of role in the story, because I see a lot of people with FBI written on their costumes.  And Audrey Esparza (Tasha) is really really hot in person.  Not the best spoilers, but that's about all I can glean from being on set.

Oh, and there's a motorcycle chase.

Tasha isn't too shabby looking on camera either!  Do you get much of a chance to talk to any of the cast?

Not really.  Electric, grip, and camera don't really talk to the cast much.  Hair, makeup, wardrobe and production do because they deal directly with them.

That's not to say that if I said hi to them they wouldn't say hi back.  They seem like nice enough people.  But there's an unwritten rule on set that crew doesn't talk to cast unless they talk to you first.  Which isn't just a class thing, where actors won't talk to lowly crew members.  We are all there trying to work, and for most actors if you try and chat them up during the day it will make them lose focus and make their job harder.  So it's polite to just let them be unless it's obvious they want to talk.  That, plus I'm not the type of guy that has much in common with actors.

Only actor I went out of my way to talk to was Bobby Moynihan, cause he seemed cool with chatting with the crew, and I'm a big fan.

Ashley Johnson is apparently pretty down to earth off screen. This is her:

Perhaps a more recent photo would be better:

That's really funny.  I saw her on set and I was like "Man, that face looks so familiar...".  Racked my brain but I couldn't get it.  Had to look her up on IMDB.  Some people look completely different when they grow up, but she still has the same cute face.

More newsy stuff.

The Justice League Teaser.
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/gglkYMGRYlE?" target="_blank" class="new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/gglkYMGRYlE?</a>

Okay, that looks a hell of a lot more promising.

Wonder Woman:
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/5lGoQhFb4NM?" target="_blank" class="new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/5lGoQhFb4NM?</a>

Like the WW1 vibe there.

Suicide Squad is getting a shooter game in a few weeks.

Lego Batman:
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/iMdQXYQ_MD8?" target="_blank" class="new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/iMdQXYQ_MD8?</a>

That's a much different route than I expected to see. But that Robin casting is brilliant. And I really hate that Wiz Kalifa song.

Still on DC, the animated films on the way: Justice League Dark (a version of the team that deals with the supernatural), Teen Titans: The Judas Contract and Batman & Harley. Oh and Mon-El will be on Supergirl. As a Legion fan, I'm making a high pitched squeal of joy.

Over on Marvel, Fox is still doing a Legion TV series. Not the Legion I squealed about nor the one invading Azeroth, but the Legion who's Xavier's mentally complicated son.And Ghost Rider's coming to Agents of Shield. Gasp! Someone super powered and requiring special effects on the show!

South Park reminds us that they're 20 years old now.
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/p-8WBB8uHeE?" target="_blank" class="new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/p-8WBB8uHeE?</a>

Again. Two. Decades. Old. Ha! Feel my pain now, younger people! Feel the grim approach of death!

New King Arthur movie enroute from Guy Ritchie. Huh. That's interesting.

On ABC, Once Upon a Time is adding Aladdin and Jafar to Season 6. I wonder if Dan Castinella will show up too.

And some little cowtown puppet show made some announcements too.
