Michael is Coming Home! Blumhouse is Co-Producing the New HALLOWEEN — With John Carpenter Onboard!
Quote
“HALLOWEEN needs to return to its traditions,” Carpenter said. “I feel like the movies have gotten away from that… Michael is not just a human being; he’s a force of nature, like the wind. That’s what makes him so scary.”

“We made the original HALLOWEEN for very little money,” he added. “At heart it’s just a good, scary story, and that’s why it works. 38 years later, I’m going to help to try to make the tenth sequel the scariest of them all.

I love Carpenter but I'm not particularly excited.  He really hasn't made a good movie in quite some time (though I did like the Cigarette Burns episode of Masters of Horror) and as a producer he hasn't done a lot in recent years either.

If he decides to do a whole new theme, that'd be cool though.

Personally I was always bored with "force of nature" Micheal, which I think is why I liked the first Rob Zombie remake.

Is this another reboot?  Didn't we have a reboot like 10 years ago?
I'm not particularly religious, and I don't really like Muppets, but I do love word play.

It's a semi-reboot.  It takes place after 2, but ignores the other sequels.

I guess that works.  I watched the trailer and was wondering why Laurie was alive.  She was killed in one of the later sequels about 18 years ago.  Didn't Meyers also get both his eyes shot out and caught in a huge explosion in the second one?

I don't really buy the conceit of the movie.  It's not that hard to keep dangerous criminals contained, and when they do escape, the cops are all over them.  Meyers is slow, mute and without charisma.  Pretty conspicuous.

Here's a (quite funny) explanation that explains the whole Halloween chronology and where this new one fits in. In only 4mins:

I particularly like the bit about the Pink Panther movies. Never picked up on that before.

Is it just me or does our forum get a lot of spammers?

Back on topic,... I just don't know about another Halloween. Just like dozens of other horror franchises with several sequels, I frankly think that cow has been milked to death.

Can we agree on what the term for this type of sequel should be? I had an idea of one that I forget, but my friend thinks they should be called "Requels."

Ret-quel maybe? That might be what I came up with.
