I'm fine with that. Safety Not Guaranteed was great, but Jurassic World was lame. If that's an indication of how his big budget movies are, I think everyone will be better off.

I said on FB I'd love for Spielberg to direct this installment, that is if he's up for it.

Yeah I was thinking they would probably ask him to come back especially if The Last Jedi turns out to be as good as it looks thus far.

http://www.vulture.com/2017/09/star-wars-episode-8-colin-trevorrow-firing-explanation.html

Quote
“There’s one gatekeeper when it comes to Star Wars and it’s Kathleen Kennedy,” says a veteran movie producer, who has worked with the studio chief. “If you rub Kathleen Kennedy the wrong way — in any way — you’re out. You’re done. A lot of these young, new directors want to come in and say, ‘I want to do this. I want to do that.’ A lot of these guys — Lord and Miller, Colin Trevorrow — got very rich, very fast and believed a lot of their own hype. And they don’t want to play by the rules. They want to do "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" differently. And Kathleen Kennedy isn’t going to "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" around with that.

and again i am asking, who in there right mind would want to be a director of a star wars movie.

WTF is the "Oh Godzilla" quote have to do with anything? Is that an actual line somebody wanted to put in a Star Wars movie? Because if so, yeah it was a terrible idea.
What I'm also wondering is if a woman is that high up as a producer for these movies, why haven't we even heard of them looking for a woman director yet? Patty Jenkins, maybe? Kathryn Bigelow?
