So it isn't just Texas who devotes semesters to learning about  the history of a specific state? The American Education system is endlessly fascinating.

At least Texas HAS history. Here is the history of Oklahoma:
1. Indians
2. Land Run
3. Will Rogers
4. Carrie Underwood*

*Number 4 will be added to the 2008 edition text books

Personally, my education experience never went into studying specific states for long periods of time.  However, since I live in such a historical area, we were taught in great detail about the American Revolution - (from both sides, actually, my great (x7) grand father was a Tory) and I tend to take for granted all the people who come to look at the American history here.

I also noticed when I was out west in Des Moines a few years ago, that everything looked so "new" - such as building that were 'old' there were still 200 years younger than Massachusetts.  /end rambling

Weird, eh?  And you're the one with the accent :)

I don't think it was a sentiment that was passed down generationally though, I have a pretty neat-o geneology of my family history - it doesn't say much, but apparently he was the only one.  My family name is ending this generation, though with my sisters and I.  *sigh* oh well.

You could always follow Lucy Stone's example.

How many sisters?

Mm, that's true - although Veronica Fish is a fun name.  I used to go to West Brookfield quite a bit when I was a kid, where she's buried, to watch my mom teach.

2 other sisters - one is a ballet dancer the other is a happy-go-lucky layabout.

See 1) A real image of a fish
         2) Poussin, whose painting it is not
         3) Magritte, whose painting it apes (although the caption isn't quite right. I really should be )

Serendipitous really.
