Well, not very recent, but I just heard through talking IRL to an Android developer that, at least in my region, wait, area, no, geographical location, Kotlin is what they're using.

It doesn't matter much to me, since I don't do Android development at all, but as someone who is forced from time to time to use Java for networking and ontologies (more-or-less fancy DBs), I think it's good news in that maybe Kotlin can eventually take over the space Java occupies for software that uses a web interface.

Sort of like how I'm glad Python means I don't have to deal with other scripting languages, except shell scripting.

Meh, I don't much care, but that would be nice to not have to drag out one of the "Java Primer" books, or search for workarounds like OWLCpp to do basic stuff. 

Getting rid of Java in SDN networking is probably not going to happen, nor in OWL or others, but at least it can be neutered into some little thing like Kotlin that wouldn't make me want to puke every time I type it.
