I'm jazzed. Probably won't be able to sink any time into it until the weekend, but time will be sunk!

I'm definitely picking it up sometime. Whether it's at full price or sale will depend on reviews. But I am very interested.

It's hard for me to say. Distant Worlds Universe and GalCiv2 (soon to be 3) are without a doubt the kings of space based 4X games.

I played the crap out of Civ V, including the expansions. But I could never retain interest in Beyond Earth. I really liked the concept, but it seemed more like a re-skin of Civ 5 than anything else. If I do pickup Starships, it will be after a price reduction, and contingent on positive reviews from people I trust.

You know it's starting at $14.99, right? That seems like a bargain on day one...

I hear it's kind of shallow and simplistic.

Yeah, yeah, it's only $15.

It's supposed to be. It wasn't designed to be a 20-30 hour game like Civ or Moo. It was set up to be a 2-3 hour game. If you're looking for Moo, this isn't it.  If you're looking for Sid Meier's Pirates in Space, yeah, there's nothing that ever indicated that it was going to be that. (Looking at you, Bain. Geez.)

I like the tactical combat system, so I've been enjoying myself in the game. It's a step up from, say, 10 Minute Space Combat or Galcon. But it's nowhere as deep as Distant Worlds.

This one will probably seem too simplistic for a lot of people, but it's a fun little casual game that fills its own little niche pretty nicely. Maybe not worth $15 for everyone but perhaps worth getting from Steam when it gets heavily discounted.
