I also think we should do screenplay.

But do we do adapted and original or just one?
FINE

Is there an official rule (from the Academy, I mean) as to what constitutes a supporting or a leading role?

It seems like it's pretty much up to your discretion based on what I've seen and read

Best animated feature wasn't a category until 2001, but there were some good ones in 1999.
I've never seen American Beauty, so don't know if it deserved all the awards it won over the others I did see.

Maybe combined?

True, but at this point there weren't as many amiated movies as we get now, so I don't know if it's worth doing. (Besides, the answer is The Iron Giant and that's undebatable)

Rest easy, it didn't.

Yeah, I agree, but that could cause split votes depending on how we collate the nominations?

Unless we get double digits submitting I think building a list of nominations will be almost impossible

I'm not so sure.

If just the people posting so far all provide lists, short of all of them being unique, we should come up with a list. We might have to let more than five go through to the final round though.

One movie gets five noms
One gets four
Four get three

Maybe we have six movies to vote on?

I also think this should have a dumber name like The Riffies or The Riffscars

So it's 5 per category?

So 5 is what the academy uses (except for best picture recently, but that has been a stupid ass decision). I have noticed a lot of people offering runner-up selections, so let's say 5-10 for this round (1999).

When are you moving on to round two?

Well we are still working out the kinks, so I have no set time frame (I propose no more than two weeks, but I have a new job, so I have no idea how quickly I can view the movies and I don't know anyone else's schedule, so that time frame is open to suggestions.

Is there an official rule (from the Academy, I mean) as to what constitutes a supporting or a leading role?

I feel like if anyone has lead roles in Magnolia, it's John C Riely and Julianne Moore, but maybe EVERYONE in that movie is considered supporting roles?

I agree. I think we should use our own judgment vis a vis supporting roles. We can always discuss/justify our nominations.

I am down with this idea, but I vote we do separate categories. Adapting a screenplay is a different beast. For example, having read the book of Forrest Gump, I was soooooooooo pissed it won best adapted screenplay.
