Anything with Frank Welker is worth seeing. That man is a vocal genius. His resume is almost endless!

I read in Empire magazine that the guy who voices Optimus Prime has signed a 3 picture deal...  I think the studio's thinking "FRANCHISE!!!"

i just hope the game doesn't suck i love transformers (the old school version anyway, oh and beast wars was interesting )...
You know it's hard enough trying to decide on which movie to see at a theater, much less trying to find someone to help pay the massive amount of money it takes just to see one these days. i mean it'd help if movies these days were actually interesting, but so far no dice on that front...

Frank Welker is a genius, but he's not voicing Megatron in the movie, just the video game. Hugo Weaving's voicing Megatron for the movie. Many fanboys are screaming bloody murder, but I have to admit that the cartoon Megatron's voice was pretty grating.

Like they even make movies anymore without an eye towards a franchise... But with Transformers, it's a no-brainer. Unless the movie completely tanks, we can expect a sequel in summer 2010, I'd say.

Edit: 2010?! Holy crap in a hat! We live in the future, man!

  • Decepticons forever!
I agree that G1 Megs voice is grating. I also heard Welker do a voice of Megs for the fans for the upcoming movie. It sounded...well off. It just didn't sound right. Man is a master of voices and vocal effects, but I think his throat has gotten out of Megatron practice. Too much doing dogs barking or cats meowing i guess.

I did hear he'd play another one of the decepticons.

I'm stoked. But I'm still wondering why they couldn't get Welker to do Megs for the movie. I guess they probably thought they needed more big names to get folks in to see the film. Because, as we all know, we all go see movies so we can hear celebraties doing voice acting.  :P

I don't think it has anything to do with big names. It's just that Frank Welker just doesn't have terrifying giant killer robot in his vast repetoire. His acting for Megatron was great, but the voice itself leaves something to be desired. I think they made the right call.

Hmm. Yeah, Cullen can bring some dignity to the role, but '80s Megatron's voice had about as much in it to be taken seriously as Skeletor's. It worked for '80s action toon, but it wouldn't work for '00s action movie. :^)

He did a Megatron sample for an interview he was doing about the new game.  It sounded right on to me.  He'll be able to do it right in the game.

I was bieng threated with death by wolf raping before it was cool!.
