Soguru, I'm absolutely on board with your list except for... 25, 22, 21, and 20, other than those you have excellent taste and I think those were probably afterthoughts on your part.

You rock!

I'm sorry, Soguru, saying stuff like, "other than those..." you have excellent taste is insulting, and I would never want to insult you...

You are totally cool, and you RAWK! Your choices are perfect, in my opinion...

I'm serious, I love your whole list. We could have a movie marathon, it would be awesome! I would love to tell you how I loved Dredd, and Big Trouble in Little China is one of my favourite movies and I would love to wax on and on, but I won't because I am boring myself, I fear for you.

Rock on, Soguru, you are the best! And so fuckin' cute... Look at that smile!

Thank you Randy. That is very kind of you to say so.  :) Yeah Dredd was fantastic. All throughout the movie I was thinking "This is what Stallone's Judge Dredd should have been". i mean that movie had some dark moments and it was cool to see the cannibals in the cursed Earth, but that movie is notorious for being cheesy and campy as all get out. Karl Urban just nailed it with being a cold-ass mother. I just hope they make another some day.

This one's mine.  I was surprised how high Raiders creeped up on my list.  I tend to think of it more of an adventure movie before action but memories of the great action pieces kept slipping in and pushing it higher and higher.  Ghost Protocol almost made it, so I was disappointed it didn't.  It's a REALLY fun movie and the best M:I movie by far.  More Brad Bird-directed action movies please.

1)   Die Hard
2)   Kill Bill Vol. 1
3)   The Avengers (2012)
4)   The Raid: Redemption
5)   Raiders of the Lost Ark
6)   Hot Fuzz
7)   Robocop
8)   The Dark Knight
9)   Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol
10)   Leon
11)   The Road Warrior
12)   Guardians of the Galaxy
13)   Spider-Man 2
14)   Desperado
15)   Captain America: The Winter Soldier
16)   Hero
17)   Kung Fu Hustle
18)   Aliens
19)   Yojimbo
20)   Iron Man
21)   Drunken Master
22)   The Incredibles
23)   Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World
24)   X2: X-Men United
25)   Apocalypto

The M:I movies are weirdly overlooked, much the Bournes imo.

The Road Warrior made the list :)

I have a real problem with Kill Bill. It's mostly because the motivations that drive Bill to do what he does to be completely needless and stupid. If it weren't for his poor widdle ego being bwuised, none of it would have ever happened. Let's see... my woman ran out on me, maybe I should

I'm sorry, but to me, Quintin Tarantino is not that good a writer/director, and Kill Bill 1 and 2 are seriously overrated films.

Had this been an LoC of the greatest action movies ever, I do not think I could ever complete a list. Just among the action films I had seen, I would be second guessing and changing my final 25 over and over again. Thankfully the LoC asked for my favorite action movie. That simplified things a lot. Here is my list, with a few notes on the films that did not make the final LoC.

25] Raiders of the Lost Ark
24] The Cameraman ( 1928 )
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
23] Play Safe ( 1927 )

22] Safety Last! ( 1923 )

21] Steamboat Bill Jr. ( 1928 )
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
20] Project A
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
19] Cops ( 1922 )
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
18] Wheels on Meals
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
17] Royal Warriors
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
16] The Strong Man ( 1926 )
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
15] The General ( 1926 )
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
14] Full Contact
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
13] Sparrows ( 1926 )
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
12] Police Story I
11] Hard Boiled
10] License to Kill
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
9] Gamera: Guardian of the Universe
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
8] Avenging Eagle
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
7] Streets of Fire
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
6] The Savage Five
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
5] Five Element Ninjas
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
4] Cowboy Beebop: The Movie
3] Breaking Away
2] Marvel's The Avengers
1] The Killer ( 1989 )

Here are some of the films that would have made my list, had I been asked to submit more than 25.

The Blues Brothers
Red Cliff Part 1
Red Cliff Part 2
Rocky
Five Masters of Death
The Dark Knight
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
The Incredible Hulk ( NOT THE ANG LEE MOVIE, THE REBOOT )
The Dark Knight Rises
Robocop
Team America: World Police
Windtalkers
1941
Ben Hur ( 1925 )
Street Gangs of Hong Kong

In a way, I am glad that the Red Cliff movies did not make the top 25, because I had no idea if I should submit them as a single film, or as two separate films.

I think Johnny Unusual got lucky that so few lists were submitted. Had a lot of members participated, then not only would the final list end up with just the expected action movies ( the films that would have been on the most lists would be the most common films like Rambo and he Fast & The Furious while the odd movies that just showed up on one list would be shut out ) but he would probably have had quite a few ties. Perhaps even a situation where #3 through 50 were all a single tie. Having so few submitted lists cut down on the ties, and allowed more of the oddball submissions to be ranked in the top 50. But then again, with so few submitted lists, this gave any joker the chance to get any film on the final 50. If I had made My Dinner With Andre my #1 pick, it would have made it to #42.

Movies I just plain forgot to consider, but might have made it: Total Recall, From Dusk Til Dawn, Planet Terror, Robocop, The Mask of Zorro, Princess Mononoke, Hard Boiled, Desperado, La Femme Nikita, Once Upon a Time in China 1 & 2, House of Flying Daggers

Movies I considered, but didn't quite make it: Sonatine, Dawn of the Dead (both versions), Day of the Dead, Night of the Living Dead, The Matrix Revolutions, Speed, Predator, The Spy Who Loved Me, From Russia With Love, Source Code, Fearless, Dark City, Leon, The Fifth Element
You know, if the space man puma thing turns out to be the correct religion, I for one will be very surprised.

Overrated is such a weird term to me, it's basically saying "I'm in the minority not liking this but those people are wrong"

I suppose that is one way of looking at it. On the flip side, I think some people think I'm an asshole for not seeing a movie's
greatness.
