What's everyone playing?
« on: April 04, 2007, 12:52:47 AM »
It just hit me - no one has put up the most obvious thread title for the Video Games subforum. I'll see to that.

So, yeah, what's everyone been playing lately and what do you think of said game(s)?

Chrome Hounds
I'm yet to figure out whether I genuinely like it, or whether my vision is clouded by how awesome robots are. Especially fully customisable robots in From Software games.

Crackdown
I'll never tire of making things explode.

IndestructoTank!
I just thought I'd plug this rising Newgrounds legend I was a part of. Originally it was a clone of Heavy Weapon, but the physics were a little over the top when I tested it in the early stages, and I said to Tony I wasn't even using the guns most of the time because bouncing was so damn fun. From there it snowballed, and now it's great fun and quite original if I do say so myself.

Final Fantasy XII
Does anyone else find this game horrendously boring? Kudos to them for the Gambit system - it's quite clever - but everything is just such a thankless chore.

Hitman: Blood Money
I'm still playing it. Got back into it the other day. Pulled off a sweet Silent Assassin run of A New Life. I love it when a plan comes together.

Phoenix Wright Ace Attourney: Justice For All
It's like they heard me, even though it was made long before I played the first one. It's everything I asked for - more of the same, but with more focus on interrogation and a case where

Because of work, I'm kind of stalled on my video game playing.  However, I'm on hour 60 of Dragon Quest.  It's a loooong game.

but fun isnt it.   I assume this is the dragon quest for ps2 that came out recently.  the one with the king and princess thats been turned into a monster and a horse respectively?  I got all the way to the end (i think) and then ff12 came out and i broke my own rule and became distracted.

Been running Nascar Sim Racing for the last couple years even though it's incredibly flawed... looking forward to the ARCA sim coming out this month. We have a regular league and run full schedule 3 nights a week.

BTW I don't expect any of you to know what I'm talking about lol...

As per Minnesota's recommendation, I'm currently playing GTA: Liberty City Stories on PS2.  Pretty fun, not nearly as good as San Andreas, but it's fun running around the old Liberty City map on new missions.  I'll be getting Vice City Stories next.

And even though I've slowed down playing it so much, I still pop Guitar Hero II in occationally.  Still stuck at 32 / 40 songs in Expert mode, and I don't really expect to get any further.  Just trying to get as many stars as I can on songs I've already beat.

Yeah, I love it.  I've been boosting my stats in the monster arena and trying to pick up stray mini-medals.  It's sort of distracted me from the main quest.  I did kick ass in the casino though: I have about 500,000 tokens!

yeah ive screwed up my charectars kinda, i gave them the wrong stats.  The spear guy i gave hammers too and was later told spear is better for power leveling because he has an ability that destroys the metal slimes.

and i suck at the casino

I just got the sequel to Runaway for my B-Day (An awesome point and click adventure!) so I'm finishing up the first one so I know where the story picks up. :^) I also snagged Final Fantasy 3 for DS (Awesome so far!), Sonic and the Secret Rings (Also awesome so far!) and I've been hooked on Civcity: Rome. I love a good city builder, and ANCIENT city-builders are better still. :^)

Oooh. A mate of mine has Sonic and the Secret Rings and also attests to its greatness, but I can't afford anything new at the moment.

I must say, I do like me some Dragon Quest VIII, but I've not played it in ages. Xenosaga III rudely tore me away a good while ago, and now I can't get back into it.

PC games for me, but...

Neverwinter Nights: the first one, the sequel sucks balls.  With all of the custom content and 4 years of patching/adding content and the two expansions, NWN1 is in a nearly perfect state finally.  The graphics are dated, sure, but still servicable.  Super fun to play at a LAN party.  Tons of player made mods to play, so there's always something to do.

Oblivion:  Lots of coolness.  It's like the holodeck, or sumthin'...

EVE Online:  I have been playing this boring-ass MMO for over two years and every time I quit I keep going back.  There is something about it... it's like-- hypnotic.  The system is so far removed from any other MMO out there and the ship combat is pretty amazing, except that I suck at it, so I die alot.  It's a strange dynamic we EVE fans have with the game.  When you plot a course to a distant system and for the next two real time hours you are watching your ship jump in and out of warp, through jump gates... and you realize you are just spending two hours watching a spaceship whoosh around... but there is this realism to it... I don't know, I don't think any EVE fan can explain the appeal of the game.

That's all for me.  I barely have the time to play those as it is, though.

Mmm. Oblivion. Want an MMORPG but hate the idea of meeting someone new? Oblivion has all the addiction and none of that darned human-to-human contact going on. :^)

Unfortunately, when Burning Crusade came out, I was sucked back into Azeroth, so I'm mostly playing World of Warcraft. (I had about a year and a half break from it though, so it still feels new.)

When I'm not playing WoW, I'm flitting between Urban Rivals (online game), Kingdom of Loathing, Europa Universalis III, Rogue Galaxy, Command and Conquer III, Titan Quest and, cough, the Sims 2.

Next week though, I'll be playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance since they just announced a downloadable expansion for it.
