Saw a couple of new bosses I've never seen before today. The Adversary, who has homing Brimstone. Yes, that's as obnoxious as it sounds. And Mama Gurdy, who killed me pretty quick.

Pretty much all of Mama Gurdys attacks are negated by flight.  The Adversary is a huge ass hole though.

In other news, now the real game can begin for me:

Unlocked all the characters that are visible. Not sure if ??? Is in this one. Did a run through with Azul which was pretty fun. Found myself in a room with boss after boss after boss, two at a time. Lasted forever but I made it as there were plenty of hearts. Felt pretty bad ass, then died almost right away in the first womb stage.

Love the game. The addition of different sized rooms is great. The only thing I don't like is they changed samson's bloodlust, but oh well. Great to be able to play with a gamepad.

Whew, a game!

I thought the old forum member Isaac was reborn.

I'm glad to see I wasn't the only person who kinda hyperventilated a little upon reading the title.... and then I started to read the thread and thought "Isaac got his own game?!"

Someone needs to start a thread where people can talk JUST about Isaac and share their Isaac stories.
...and there he was, reigning supreme at number two.  The One... The Only... The Unabeefer.

Really hate it when you have an amazing run going, only to be completely ruined by a single item.  I had max damage, max shot speed, and max tears only to grab ipecac, not knowing what it was.  Lasted a little while but rooms with a lot of enemies were near impossible with explosive tears.  Real frustrating.  Same thing with dead cat.  Was incredibly powerful then all of a sudden I have one heart and I'm forced to die 9 times to the same boss.

It goes both ways though, sometimes a garbage run can be turned around by one or two great items.  And, every time you ruin a run with a bad item, you learn about what it does and can avoid it when necessary.  The dead cat is interesting because there's no reason not to take it if you have low health or mostly soul hearts, but it can destroy your run if you're depending on a lot of red heart containers.

Anyway, I've made quite a bit of progress, which I won't spoil because it involves some of the bigger secrets in the game.  I will say that I'm doubting my ability to get "Real Platinum God" in this game given some of the requirements.  I hope I can eventually, but it's brutal.

One question, are there hidden characters that aren't visible on the select screen until you unlock them?

Fuck you Cursed Eye. I got this on my very first run, but I didn't realize how bad it was at that time. Skip forward to today, I FINALLY had a good Cain run going, but then I grabbed this from a secret room, forgetting what it was. Profanity ensued.

It bugs me how badly they nerfed Cain.

I just had the strangest run.

I was playing as Eden, and started with Libra. My stats were crap. Later I picked up Experimental Treatment. Somehow that made them even more crap. But then on the next floor I saw Soy Milk. I figured this run was doomed anyway and I'd never picked up Soy Milk before, so...

..WTF!? Suddenly my fire rate AND my damage were through the roof. Even my speed and range were substantially higher. I still had two floors to go before Mom, and I missed the boss rush by less than 30 seconds  :grr:

The seed was SJWT M3PY if anyone is interested.

I went on to beat Satan, but the game steadfastly refuses to grant me access to the Cathedral. That was my tenth Mom kill and I haven't seen the Cathedral even once.

Both the Cathedral and Sheol officially unlock at 11 Mom kills.  You can get to either place before that by getting a devil room or angel room after the Heart fight.  Angel rooms after Mom's heart have the beam of light up to the Cathedral in this game, unlike the original which just had the door to Sheol.

Got Platinum God today, ended up taking right around 100 hours.  Still need to get "Real Platinum God" and that will be fucking painful.

Anyone got a link to how to unlock certain items? I'm making my way through the game, but I'm not sure which character links to which items.

Fun run the other day - had the battery and undefined in the chest - use it twice in the secret room and it transports you to the start of the chest - with new chests! Killed ??? in about 5 seconds.  :)

http://platinumgod.co.uk/rebirth Mouse over an item to see it's description and how to unlock it.

Also, I had the most heartbreaking run I think I've ever had in Isaac.  Gonna throw it behind spoilers in case anyone in here has still managed to avoid the details of how to get "Real Platinum God", so don't read if you don't want to know:

After 133 hours and with the help of cheese, it is done:

Broke the game wide open on the run that I got it.  Sharp plug, scapular and D6 is an insane combo (images spoilered for size):

Holy hell... Congrats JimJ. I have 200+ hours on the original game, and about 65 on Rebirth, but I concede, you're better than I am.

Meanwhile, I just had a Samson run where I got three Guppy items from a Deal wt/ Devil room (from three red chests) and still managed to lose against Satan  :grr:.
