Forced Subs for Attack of Clones
« on: April 03, 2007, 07:42:01 AM »
Anyone got a handle on whether or not Attack of the Clones has 'forced subs'?
Shinigami...I'm looking in your direction  ;)

I'm assuming it does, as Phantom Menace had forced subs.

I'm telling you guys, join the dark side and re-author with original disc structure.  The forced subs issue goes away, provided you re-author with the original subs in the same spot.  Drag and drop, run ifoupdate, and its all taken care of.

If you just want to re-author w/o the menus, here is a great guide for editing your ifo to turn subs on by default:

I did xXx and Phantom Menace using SubRip. Wasn't too hard.
Author with DVD Lab Pro and then use PGC Edit to force the subs.

If there's an easy way to do it, I'm all for it.  Or at least a method I can understand.

These should work for the alien dialog subs:

Code: [Select]
1
00:05:13,002 --> 00:05:16,165
<i>The Loyalist Committee</i>
<i>has arrived, Your Honor.</i>

2
01:04:37,430 --> 01:04:40,024
Let me help you with that.

3
01:04:41,134 --> 01:04:44,501
What? What do you want?

4
01:04:44,604 --> 01:04:47,072
Wait! You're a Jedi!

5
01:04:47,173 --> 01:04:50,370
Whatever it is, I didn't do it.

6
01:04:56,082 --> 01:04:58,243
I'm looking for Shmi Skywalker.

7
01:17:10,664 --> 01:17:14,430
What you are proposing
could be construed as treason.

8
01:30:13,780 --> 01:30:17,181
The debate is over.

9
01:30:17,283 --> 01:30:20,252
Now we need that clone army.

10
01:45:20,786 --> 01:45:24,688
Settle down. Settle down.

11
01:45:28,694 --> 01:45:32,425
Let the executions begin.

12
01:58:48,092 --> 01:58:51,721
Our communications have been jammed.

13
02:00:43,608 --> 02:00:47,544
We have to order a retreat.

14
02:00:52,216 --> 02:00:55,811
I'm sending my warriors
to hide in the catacombs.

15
02:00:55,920 --> 02:00:59,947
The Jedi must not find
our designs for the ultimate weapon.

16
02:01:02,393 --> 02:01:07,695
If they find out what we are planning
to build, we're doomed.

I got the same thing from using SubRip, but I think my times might be different??...I'll have to check.

I originally tried SubRip as well, and found the times to be off.  I recall having similar issues with Episode 1.  I found a subtitle file from a website and copied the time codes from it.

Ah, forced subs.

[cringes]

We haven't had to deal with this in awhile.  Thanks for posting the subs Wiseblood.  I'll be adding them in manually in iMovie.

The problem I have with trying to add subs is that every single rip I do the video timecode is completly screwed up. For instance the audio time for one movie said somehting like 1:46:13 an the video time code was 2:46:18. There is a tool in the DVD Lab program that fixes the time code and then I usually wind up with a video with a sometimes shorter or sometimes longer time code than the audio. Usually by a couple of seconds. I have had no sync issues when burning but I am sure the time code difference is screwing up any chance of syncing subtitles.

Yep, the times in the SRT you provided are accurate. I just tested 'em out.
The times that I got from SubRip are off by approx 4.5 seconds (late).

Each time, the subs should have read
"My boat", read in the same manner that Kevin Costner said in Waterworld.
