What did you learn on this yellow night?

I learned that there's no need to inform your audience when the movie's time-frame moves forward a couple of decades.

I learned that the romantic lead from Attack of the the Eye Creature was in a second movie. And no, they just-didn't-care.

I learned that Langdon and his unnamed female accomplice are responsible for the deaths of an unspecified American family, in some unexplained way. And he is being pursued by the military of a vaguely southeast Asian country, at the request of two US diplomats who have no lines and are never mentioned again.

But this definitely happened in 1946, that much we know for sure... up until the opening credits. After that, who knows?

Also, you can totally be qualified to be a nurse in "wherever the hell this is" without knowing CPR.

I learned you preform CPR on some on by placing both your hands on the person's chest and sort of push down on them while shaking them like you're trying to wake them up.

I learned that after your grave-side funeral/last rites the grave diggers (buriers) will sort of the move the coffin-holding contraption out of the way, put a piece of plywood over your open grave and then kind of deal with the rest later.

I learned that they have nice-looking, pink, princess phones in 1946... maybe.

I learned that I maybe need to reconsider by Hand-Made Artisanal Obelisk business.

I learned that if you betray the Devil he'll punish you by... giving you what you wanted in the first place (in Langdon's case, death).

I learned that if your miraculously recover from disfiguring injuries that presumably were severely life-threatening to the point it's not thought you'll ever recover no one will really be to impressed by this after the first few minutes.

I learned that there is actually a more incoherent beginning in a film than anything I have ever seen, methinks. I have watched it four times and still can't figure out what resulted in the guy meeting "Satan" or whatever in the jungle.

I learned that extending the blind hermit/monster sequence from Bride of Young Frankenstein into a full length movie will move no one if the audience has no idea what is going on and why it's going on.

I learned that when monsters mourn blind hermits they suddenly become vulnerable to bullets.

I STILL have no idea how the bullet killed him at the end or how it was fine for a policeman to kill a guy laying on the ground

Listen to Nick Cave's song Mercy Seat over and over again as you watch that climatic sequence. It will begin to sink in.

By FIRE, yet. Meaning he was a vampire or common zombie all along.
