MANIMAL reboot

Quote
Jimmy Miller's Mosaic and Will Ferrell and Adam McKay‘s Gary Sanchez Productions have partnered to produce a remake of 1980s short-lived crime series “Manimal,” McKay revealed on Tuesday.

The original series starred Simon MacCorkindale as Dr. Jonathan Chase, a man who had the ability to transform into any animal, and used his ability to help police solve crimes. The new film, from Sony Pictures Animation, will unsurprisingly have comedic elements in addition to action, and will feature heavy special effects as well as animated elements.

Miller, Ferrell and McKay previously teamed up to produce “The Other Guys,” “Step Brothers” and “Talladega Nights.” The producers will now search for a director for “Manimal.”

Never saw this show. Would more emphasis on comedy be a good thing?

Isn't that what happened with the Brady Bunch follow-up show?

As somebody who grew up watching Brady Bunch reruns as a kid, I though the movie spoof / comedy had a lot of funny bits. I know this is a backhanded compliment, but it was one of the best "let's make a silly comedy based on an old TV show" genre that was all the rage for awhile in the 90s.

As Brad Jones said, it should be Aaron Eckhart portraying Dr Jonathan Chase... or if they changed his name, it should still be Aaron Eckhart playing Manimal.

Aaron Eckhart would be a good choice. Not for a comedy reboot like it'll probably be, though.
