Honestly I've been really let down by this season. The premiere was so promising, I thought "Man, they haven't lost a step." I watched it over and over again and loved it. Then the next one was okay, it picked up steam after awhile. Then I really liked Pickle Rick, so I thought okay, the previous week was just sort of a misstep, they're still in top form.
Then the rest of the season came. For whatever reason, I'm just not laughing like I once did. I'm getting a couple little chuckles at best. I appreciate the stories they're trying to tell, they're doing some cool and interesting things, but I'm still not laughing. I don't know if they're focusing too much on trying to be all deep and clever and forgetting to be funny, or if the humor has lost its impact, or what, but it's still a real problem for me because this had become the new Simpsons for me. The first two seasons were as good as the Simpsons was in its prime, a feat NO other show has managed, at least to me.
Or maybe the long delay caused expectations to rise too high. The longer you make your audience wait, the more they hype it up in their heads. And their explanations for the delay being "We're PERFECTIONISTS and it's slowing things down." just made expectations even higher.
