Ren and Stimpy will always be a favorite of mine, but it was very much of its time. Back in the '90s. cartoons for kids weren't allowed to have adult undertones. That subversive element was what made it so wonderful. Today, it's almost expected for children's programming to play to the grown-ups, albeit without as much of the gross-out factor. So they either make it explicitly adult, which didn't work so well on Adult Party, or they fail to bring anything new to a 2020 audience. It's on Comedy Central, so I'm guessing it's not JUST for kids.
Its only hope is to play to its less-talked-about feature, which is that it was a big love-letter to traditional animation and Warner Bros. cartoons. If they make it like a Looney Tunes for grown-up kids, it has a shot.
Either way, I think we can say goodbye to moments like the cast breaking into song and singing The Lord Loves a Hangin' (That's Why He Gave Us Necks).
