Rick and Morty
« on: April 08, 2014, 08:38:29 PM »
This is a new animated show from Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland. Episodes can be watched for free on the Adult Swim website.

Anyways, I'm pretty hooked. It's got references out the wazoo, plenty of gross-out humor, and heart (it's Harmon after all).

Anybody else watching?

LOVE this show. It's filled the animated-sci-fi-comedy gap that Futurama left behind.

A coworker convinced me to try it a few weeks ago and I was instantly hooked once I caught the "Cronenberg" world.

Binge-watched the entire season after work today. Was hooked pretty much straight away, although I made the mistake of watching the first episode at the gym. When they got to the part where Rick was asking Morty to smuggle the seeds through customs, it probably looked like I was having an asthma attack on the exercise bike.

I think Pak nailed it. This show has all the totally outlandish (yet bizarrely consistent) sci-fi humor of Futurama*, and also a surprising amount of heart. Loved the bit in the last episode where Rick actually discovered he likes Morty (kinda sorta mostly). Plus the multi-episode bit of the parents wondering if they're actually right for each other. It's a solid show to do subtle stories over the course of the season, and definitely makes sense that Harmon is a main player in this. Can't wait for the finale on Monday. I just hope I get back from work in time to watch it.

*although this show gets way darker (King Jellybean anyone?)

Also, best description I've seen of the show:

I avoided the leaks and finally got to the premier this morning. Loved every minute of it, it's like the show never left. A suitably jacked-up sci-fi plot with crazy humor and more than a little heart squeezed in. Plus, Jerry got a win for once! He was long overdue for that.

Loved it. It's increadibly smart humor presented in a low brow fashion. Can't wait for more.

That was darned impressive. That they pulled off what they pulled off and still told a completely coherent story is darned impressive. And it was funny, of course. That always helps.

I got a good friend who works at Gamestop who's tried getting me into watching Rick and Morty but I just can't work up the interest factor.

Honestly, it's my favorite thing on TV right now. If there was a hole left in your heart by Futurama, and you can stand a little bit of raunchiness, Rick and Morty fills it up nicely.
