Anyway, having rewatched Princess Bride recently, it does have some very small flaws; the Mark Knopfer score oscillates in quality from good to cheesy synth (cheesy kind of works for this old fashioned Errol Flynn tale but synth... well, as much as I love DEVO and the Talking Heads, new wave has a lot to answer for.) but the flaws are very small (nay, insignificant) considering how wonderful it is with telling a solid story that both shows respect for fairy tales and also toys with them.  The way it plays with the narrative is also a lot of fun.  (Especially when the grandpa explains that Humperdinck lives).  It's just an overall very satisfying and rewatchable movie.  I can understand someone being turned off by great movies simply because people yak on and on about them too much (or in some cases, by having lame sequels.  I'm looking at you, Austin Powers), but for me, Princess Bride isn't just nostalgia (or the Dark Crystal would have done better), it's a wonderful mix of mocking the naive fairy tale ideas of love and embracing them without missing a beat.

Rewatching Labyrinth, there's one line of dialogue that is at the end that stuck with me, which I used for the quote.

"I don't know why, but every now and again in my life - for no reason at all - I need you. All of you."

How is that not perfect for so many of these movies?

I totally spaced on The Princess Bride and The Wizard of OZ. OTOH, I'm surprised Legend and Krull didn't make it. Also, no Star Wars?!

And I'll have to check out Strings. Looks interesting.

1 Pan's Labyrinth
2 The Secret of NIMH
3 The City of Lost Children
4 Princess Mononoke
5 The Dark Crystal
6 Lord of the Rings (The series as a whole, but if I have to pick one, Return of the King)
7 Time Bandits
8 The Flight of Dragons

9 Star Wars (again, the entire original trilogy, but if I have to pick one, A New Hope)
10 The Adventures of Baron Munchausen
11 Beetlejuice

12 Twice Upon a Time (If you were a child of the 80s with HBO, you know this. If not, my condolances)
13 Legend
14 Krull
15 The Thief and The Cobbler (The Recobbled Cut. NOT the God awful Matthew Broderick version)
16 Spirited Away
17 Labyrinth
18 Willow
19 The Last Unicorn

20 Event Horizon
21 Enchanted
22 The Little Mermaid
23 The Neverending Story
24 Fire & Ice
25 Heavy Metal

This list is awesome, and the whole tied in story is hilarious.

1. Spirited Away
2. The Princess Bride
3. Delicatessen
4. Photographing Fairies
5. Time Bandits
6. Toy Story 3
7. The Adventures of Baron Munchausen
8. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
9. Wings of Desire
10. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
11. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
12. Groundhog Day
13. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
14. The Nightmare Before Christmas
15. Ugetsu
16. Donnie Darko
17. Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me
18. Excalibur
19. Dellamorte Dellamore/Cemetery Man
20. Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind
21. The City of Lost Children
22. Edward Scissorhands
23. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
24. Coraline
25. Labyrinth

I actually had Defending Your Life 14th on my list, but I guess I forgot to reinsert it at some point during a ranking reshuffle. Like Pak, I excluded Ghostbusters, and some others that did well because I was not entirely convinced of their placement as fantasy. Of course, I included Excalibur on my list and excluded Monty Python and the Holy Grail, so I am not really sure what the hell I was thinking most of the time making this list.

Go watch Delicatessen and Photographing Fairies now. Or not. I will love them either way. Thanks.
You know, if the space man puma thing turns out to be the correct religion, I for one will be very surprised.

The soundtrack's nicely selected. It misses the point of the novel I felt.

Just for the record, I find The Lord of the Rings trilogy to be massively overrated.

Just for the record, that piece of halibut was good enough for Jehovah.

I was rewatching the first half of the first one.  Ironically, I think it's best in the beginning when nothing is really happening, but we are getting to know the characters.  You know, the party and such.  Then I lose interest when we see the black riders for the third time.

I don't really get all the complaints about the walking in LOTR. It's a fucking ROAD MOVIE! And in that kind of movie, it's all about the changes the characters go through in the journey. They just don't happen to have cars yet!
