Marvel or DC (or just great) new Cartoons
« on: October 31, 2011, 09:44:02 AM »
So, I've watched Batman: the Animated series, most of the straight to DVD movies and the Young Justice eps.  Still I'm interested to see more fun or exciting animated movies/series, is Brave & the Bold more aimed at kids? etc.

Happy to take suggestions

Brave and the Bold is actually pretty good.  Batman's a lot lighter then he is in other cartoons, but some of the guest-stars really make the show fun.  Their version of Aquaman is the best version of Aquaman I've ever seen.

Most of the straight to DVD marvel movies that have come out have been pretty good.  Hulk vs. for example.I also liked the Thor where he was a kid.

Brave and the Bold is quite good. There's a lot of little winks to comic continuity in there. For example- this weekend's US episode featured a meeting between the JLI and their cross-universal counterparts, the Justice Society. Aside from having R. Lee Ermey play a role, the actor playing Starman did the voice as Ted Baxter's voice. (See, Starman's secret ID is Ted Knight, who played Ted Baxter on Mary Tyler Moore. What? I laughed.)

Aside from that, try these:
Justice League/Justice League Unlimited - a great ensemble cast, with more Kevin Conroy Batman
Spectacular Spider-man / Spider-Man The New Animated Series (The later stars Neil Patrick Harris)
Wolverine and the X-Men

Movie-wise, I like most of the DC animated stuff, but the Green Lantern films and the JL films are probably the best. Marvel-wise, I'd only recommend Planet Hulk. The rest were meh.

Batman Brave and the Bold is Batman done camp. It makes it a little goofy, but is absolutely a ton of fun. They made Aquaman awesome! He is mostly a loudmouthed idiot braggart. Lots of team ups in the series. Green Arrow, Plastic Man, Aquaman, Guy Gardner Green Lantern, Jaime Blue Beetle, and more. They show up a lot.

It mainly focuses on secondary villains. Wasn't till the last season or so where we see guys like the Joker. Batmite is hilarious because they use him to break the forth wall.

Recommended episodes:
Chill of the night - most serious toned of the series. Batman hunts down the man who killed his parents.. Joe Chill. Plus it is the ONLY time you see him as Bruce Wayne
Music Meister - NPH plays the titular villain in this musical episode. Awesome songs and wonderful episode.
Aquaman's family vacation - Aquaman stars in this episode and is hilarious.
Crisis 22,000 miles above the Earth - JL international hosts a party for the JSA. The JSA are all senior citizens and bad guests. Jay Garrik Flash has incontinence issues.
Battle of the Superheroes - Every read Superdickery.com? It is old Silver Age Superman and Batman comics where the covers make Supes look like and A-hole. Tons are referenced here...

Also check out Young Justice and The Avengers: Earth Mightiest Heroes.
