The Apple is a wonderful, terrible mess of a movie.  It also came out in the same year as Xanadu, which is also a wonderful, terrible mess of a movie.  1980 was a bad year for musicals.

Well, or it was a good year for bad musicals.

Wow.  Those are some reviews.  I swore off Rifftrax VODs months ago, but I might have to get these.

The VODs have been some of their best work as of late.

I'd like to see them tackle Captain invincible, eventually.

All I know is is that at the end, I thought what Mike did at the end of Overdrawn at the Memory Bank: "Wow that was a very bad and confusing movie."

They charge twice as much and don't even have the decency to put menus or even chapter stops on them.

My life has taken on an odd feeling of completeness this week.

I saw The Apple a few times on cable in 1980 or '81. I must have watched it a dozen times before it vanished down the memory hole. It was the first movie I ever riffed, though I didn't have that word for the practice until much later.  I still remember my mother asking "Are you watching that thing again?" as I sat enraptured by the utter madness on the screen of my family's old console TV. (I always switched the channel before she could see the "Coming For You" sequence, which my 12 year-old self found the silliest part of an already silly movie.)

When I first saw MST3K a decade later, my first thought (after "This is the most awesome thing in the history of history!") was "Wow, I hope they do The Apple someday!"

Took you guys long enough!

I hope I don't have to wait another 30 years for Can't Stop The Music.

Thank goodness! Our very similar hairstyles to the heroine might lead to donning silver hot potpants, wiggling excessively and shouting "SPEED!" at inappropriate times!
WARNING: In case of Rapture, this dance belt will be unoccupied.

The one musical number that really annoys is Speed.  Bibi just doesn't have the voice that can belt out the lyrics and she somehow makes almost incoherent the single word speed.  I thought she was trying to say Bee or Bim or something.

I like Bibi. I never thought God would annoy the living shit out of me, though. That was a new one on me. Then again, I never thought God was the demon spawn of The KFC Colonel and the Quaker Oats Quaker, glued together with pure self-righteousness, before, either. Also, I'm pretty sure God would have a chauffeur of some sort.
