Apparently this one is accurate to the original draft of the movie script.  That was what the screenwriter attempted to imply, not that Jack Napier himself really killed the Waynes.

I got pretty turned off of John Cheese after he wrote some dumb article decrying the misuses of comedy tropes that he perceived.  The one guy on a humor site who never writes humorous stuff was lecturing people about the proper way to be funny.
