John Swartzwelder
« on: March 13, 2007, 05:34:32 AM »
for anyone that likes swartzwelder's humor on the simpsons, he has a few books published.  i just found out today that his 4th one came out yesterday so i ordered it.  i read his first 3 (the time machine did it, double wonderful and how i conquered your planet) and they were great.  the time machine did it is so far my favorite and it contains the great character of frank burly as a dimwitted private detective.  he is also the main character of how i conquered your planet and the new one which is called the exploding detective.  anyone else read any of these?

After listening to the Simpsons' commentaries, I was certainly interested in getting one or two.  Is the Time Machine the best one to start with?

EDIT: Shoot.  It looks like they don't publish them over here.

just saw that on ebay there is a bookstore that is selling autographed copies of the books for the same price as amazon has them.  you might want to check that out as well.

So I'll stick to Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett.

Have you ever read Robert Rankin? He's kind of a mix between the two, though he's very English in his sensibilities.  The titles of his books are awesome though:  Raiders of the Lost Car Park, The Sprouts of Wrath, and Sex, Drugs and Sausage Rolls;D

I've read one RR, can' remember which one, it was bizzare as hell,  THE King with a talking sprout, constant references to the specific machine gun model arnie used in a film, I would have read more but it was the only one the library had.
