I bought all of the Studio DVD's. But when they went to Live Show DVD's. I really lost interest. I mean its not as fun when the audience is laughing over half the jokes. And the Audio on the CT Live DVD's were not as good as it was on the Rifftrax Live DVD's
See I'm the exact opposite here..
The Live DVDs added that extra entertainment value to me. The studio DVDs would not keep my attention as much as the Live ones :-\

I'm with RVR II on this one. They seem to have less energy when it's a studio recording.

You mean the skits? The number one reason I prefer the live versions is that they did away with those! :P

I found those to be really cheap and pretty lame. But I think that's mainly because they were so short. They didn't really have enough time to get into anything funny. And they were limited by the fact they were still on the same set and just in silhouettes.

Same here. Although I did just grab all the live ones because they are going away.  Nothing beats seeing them actually live, but watching the live shows, in my living room, by myself? eh... doesn't appeal to me.  The first couple studio CTs were a bit stiff but by the last three, the energy was there and they were more comfortable, cracking each other up etc....  Did people while watching MST3K during the Joel years complain about lack of energy?  Isn't that what everyone loved about sleepy Joel?

As far as sleepy Joel on MST3k, the robots had a lot to do with keeping the energy up. Maybe it was the chemistry between Trace and Kevin, but I found that manic burst missing when I watched some CT studio work.

Did I miss something as far as the DVDs "going away?"  I knew they were stopping the tours, but have they also set a time limit on offering the DVDs?  There are several I never got to, but can't afford in the short term.

I really enjoy the live DVDs.  The crowd adds an extra something to the atmosphere, while the live nature sometimes spawns a little spontaneity, so I get to hear Mary Jo's great laugh.

I think it's just the last 2 show titles that may not make it to DVD.. Haven't heard anything with regards to all their DVDs going away.. :-\

Yeah, they're not pulling existing DVDs, but Trace posted on Satellite News a few weeks back that there were no plans for DVD releases of the other shows. So it sounds like what's available on DVD may well be it.

Not so much pulling them, but rather not making anymore.  When it was announced that this was the last tours they said they might do another run of DVDs. It looks like they did because Amazon has all but 1 in stock again. They were out of most of them for a bit.

Yeah, thanks for clarifying.

I'd be surprised if they stayed in print for long though.
