Riffed movie that best represents its decade
« on: February 10, 2013, 04:42:33 PM »
I was watching CT's "The Alien Factor" the other day and it occurred to me that there is no other MST3K, Rifftrax, or CT movie that is as "70s" as that movie. Which movies represent the other decades as well? "Space Mutiny" for the "80s", perhaps?

/I know this is the MST3K forum, but this topic didn't seem to properly belong in any other forums, either.

Soultaker, despite its release date, represents the 80s pretty well.
Just a guy who sits at his computer and types stuff, attempting to entertain.

I also riff public domain movies on my YouTube account. Not too good at it yet. :P

'50s - REVENGE OF THE CREATURE, THIS ISLAND EARTH, THE PHANTOM PLANET, HIGH SCHOOL BIG SHOT

'60s - CATELINA CAPER, OPERATION DOUBLE 007, DANGER!! DEATH RAY,

'70s - LASERBLAST, SPACE TRAVELERS, MITCHELL, CODENAME: DIAMOND HEAD, SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL

'80s - MASTER NINJA I, BEING FROM ANOTHER PLANET, SPACE MUTINY, ALIEN FROM L.A., ZOMBIE NIGHTMARE

I can't think of anything "1990's" about a lot of these films, even the ones made in the '90s.

Future War is very 90s.  Even Time Chasers feels more 80s with its 5.25" floppies, but the 90s was king of the Direct-to-Video mass market, and it definitely has that chintzy "yes, we made this on a budget and STILL got it released" feel.  That, and the "police station" with all the backward ballcaps I think does a good job of representing an era.

Werewolf not so much, but it's funny to see them comment about the "high gas prices" of $1.30-$1.50.  I remember watching that episode and thinking, "there may be a day when THAT joke is incredibly dated."  I'm sad to have been proven right.

Didn't take long, either. We were going upward of $3 before 5 years were up if memory serves.

Yes, that and San Francisco International are the most aggressively 70s that I can think of.

I felt San Francisco International wasn't mellow enough and had a distinct lack of turkeys.

I'd say Diabolik was very 60's. VERY 60's.
