*No David Jason on the countdown, eh? Great voice actor, he did Mr. Toad on the clay version of Wind and The Willows and the Weasle leader, plus he voiced Count Duckula.

42 David Jason

(26 points, 2 lists of 16, highest ranking: #6 Smoky)
Fan Favorite:
The Wind and The Willows – Mr. Toad

Additional Roles
Danger Mouse – Danger Mouse
Count Duckula – Count Duckula (I LOVED that show)
victor and Hugo - Hugo

From Wikipedia:
Sir David John White OBE (born 2 February 1940), known by his stage name David Jason, is an English BAFTA-winning actor. Aware of his early years as a struggling actor, Jason has been willing during his career to take on a number of diverse roles and opportunities. This led to him becoming a noted children's voice-over artist.

In the 1980s, he developed a relationship with Cosgrove Hall, and subsequently provided as a voice artist for a number of children's television productions. This included voices for Danger Mouse alongside Terry Scott, The BFG, Count Duckula, Hugo from Victor and Hugo and Toad from The Wind in the Willows, all produced by Cosgrove Hall for Thames Television/ITV.

Most recently he has provided the voice of Father Christmas in Father Christmas and the Missing Reindeer, Rola Polar in The Adventures of Dawdle the Donkey, and did voices in animated films including Wombling Free and The Water Babies.

Interesting we both had the same favourite role. :)

Now the story I always heard about Mel Blanc was thatat one point doing Looney Tunes that he wanted more money but they woudn't give it to him, so he got exclusive naming in the credits. So there are a lot of classic Looney Tunes where it just gives his name, and none of the other people who did voices in those cartoons. I've always heard voice actors gush over Mel Blanc, but I wonder if there is any animosity in him getting other voice actors names uncredited. Or am I wrong about that story?

I can think of one total voice-acting legend and two primary voice actors from Matt Groening-produced shows that haven't shown up yet that I wouldn't be surprised to see in the #1 spot...

EDIT: Actually I can think of 3 from Matt Groening shows. I think I have the top 4 figured out...

For the record, I totally had the Top 4 figured out! :^)

My list:

1. Townsend Coleman (Favorite Role: The Tick - The Tick)
2. Billy West (Favorite Role: Phillip J. Fry - Futurama)
3. Steve Blum (Favorite Role: Spike Speigel - Cowboy Bebop)
4. Mel Blanc (Favorite Role: Bugs Bunny - Looney Tunes)
5. Frank Welker (Favorite Role: Megatron - Transformers)
6. Patrick Warburton (Favorite Role: Brock Samson - Venture Brothers)
7. Jon Benjamin (Favorite Role: Coach McGuirk - Home Movies)
8. John DiMaggio (Favorite Role: Bender - Futurama)

9. Jennifer Hale (Favorite Role: Female Commandeer Shepard  - Mass Effect)
10. Peter Cullen (Favorite Role: Optimus Prime - Transformers)
11. Mark Hammil (Favorite Role: The Joker - Batman: The Animated Series)

12. Andy Merrill (Favoite Role: Brak - Space Ghost: Coast to Coast)
13. Dan Castellaneta (Favorite Role: Homer Simpson - The Simpsons)
14. Dana Snyder (Favorite Role: Master Shake - Aqua Teen Hunger Force)

15. Charlie Adler (Favorite Role: The Red Guy - Cow and Chicken)
16. Jim Cummings (Favorite Role: Darkwing Duck - Darkwing Duck)
17. George Lowe (Favorite Role: Dad - The Brak Show)
18. Paul Rugg (Favorite Role: Freakazoid - Freakazoid)
19. Tress Macneille (Favorite Role: Dot Warner - Animaniacs)
20. Edward Asner (Favorite Role: Cosgrove - Freakazoid)
21. Sterling Holloway (Favorite Role: Winnie the Pooh - The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh)
22. Stephen Colbert (Favorite Role: Myron Reducto - Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law)
23. Rob Paulsen (Favorite Role: Raphael - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)
24. Seth Macfarlane (Favorite Role: Stan Smith - American Dad)

25. Michael Sinterniklaas (Favorite Role: Dean Venture - The Venture Brothers)

Kind of surprised Charlie Adler didn't make it. He was all over the place in the '90s.

Glad Dan Castellaneta did as well as he did, knowing tastes here Mel Blanc was always going to take the first spot.

Any chance she'll be on Pop My Culture?  She seems amazing.  Maybe on another voice actor-themed episode.

That's a great idea! I'll try to snag her in the future!

Here's mine:

1 Mel Blanc - The original Bugs Bunny, along with many other Loony Tunes and Merrie Melodies characters.
2 Jim Cummings - Winnie the Pooh (as of 1998) along with a whole crapload of minor roles, mostly with Disney. He doubled for Jeremy Irons for the seconed half of "Be Prepared".
3 Don LaFontaine - Best known as the movie trailer voice over guy. "In a World..." RIP
4 Harry Shearer - Mr Burns, among many other Simpson's characters
5 Billy West - Fry in Futurama
6 Dan Castalanetta - Homer Simpson, plus other Simpsons characters
7 Hank Azaria - Apu, among others, in The Simpsons.

8 Megumi Hayashibara - Lina Inverse from Slayers (in Japanese). She's also in many high profile shows, such as Faye in Cowboy Bebop, Rei in Evangelion and female Ranma in Ranma ½
9 Tony Jay - Frollo in Disney's Huntchback of Notre Dame
10 Peter Cullen - Optimus Prime
11 Trey Parker - Cartman, and other South Park characters
12 Richard Steven Horvitz - Zim, in Invader Zim

13 Levi Stubbs - The Plant in Little Shop of Horrors. Also Mother Brain in Captain N
14 Garrison Keillor - Himself in A Prarie Home Companion
15 Frank Welker - Megatron, along with many other Decepticons. Plus a ton of other stuff.
16 Andy Serkis - Gollum
17 Nancy Cartwright - Bart Simpson
18 Seth MacFarlane - Peter, Stewie and Brian on Family Guy
19 Mary Kay Bergman - Several voices on South park, including Sheila Broflovski & Mrs McCormick, before she commited suicide in 1999

20 Arsenio Hall - Winston, from The Real Ghosbusters.
21 Gilbert Gottfried - Iago, and the AFLAC duck
22 Lorenzo Music - Garfield, Tummi from the Gummi Bears, Peter from The Real Ghosbusters
23 Thurl Ravenscroft - Best know as Tony the Tiger, a role he played for over 50 years
24 Phil Hartman - Troy McClure, Lionel Hutz. Both characters were cut from the show after his murder. He also played the cat in Kiki's Delivery Service

25 Michael Winslow - The sound effects guy

I completely spaced out on the entire cast of Venture Brothers. Sad considering I love the show. I should have at least had James Urbanik on there.

And was I the only person who included a Japanese voice actor?

I certainly considered Megumi since she was a major and distinctive voice when I first started watching anime, but she fell off my list eventually.

I don't feel like I can judge Japanese voice actors since I have no idea how well they'd sound to me if I were a native. If I was going to, it would be Megumi, though, 'cuz I dig her singing voice. She's got so much energy while she sings. The various Slayers theme songs are some of my favorite Japanese music. I almost voted for Lisa Ortiz, incidentally. She juuust got bumped off my list. I love the US cast for Slayers.

While I mean no offense for voice actors who do dubbing, but I can never get into it.  Even if they are good voice actors, I always much prefer to hear the intended voices, that are also tied heavily to the culture and language.
