28a. Spaceballs

(58 points, 4 lists of 24, highest ranking: #2 goflyblind)
Release date: June 24 1987
Directed by: Mel Brooks
From IMDB: Planet Spaceball's President Skroob sends Lord Dark Helmet to steal Planet Druidia's abundant supply of air to replenish their own, and only Lone Starr can stop them.
My take:
You know the phrase "the Devil has the best lines"? This is no more true than here. While this movie is funny from start to end, it's the villain stuff that easily gets the biggest laughs. This is truly one of Rick Moranis' best showcases. The stuff with Lonestar pales in comparison, which is odd because you have the incompareable John Candy (sandly saddled with an unwieldy costume and a not very funny main joke), and Pill Pullman is more than capable here too. Hell, even the normally gratingly annoying Joan Rivers is good here. But see it for the Spaceballs themselves, it's worth it.
What have we learned?
Rick Moranis is AWESOME!
My luggage combination.
Holy crap, Joan Rivers can actually be funny! Ok, sometimes, but still...who knew?!
What they brake for.
Hey, check it out, somebody spoofed the ending of Spaceballs! And with that guy from Ten Commandments, too:
