Makes me wonder how many people could really submit a list of 50.

I am having a horrible time narrowing down to 25. I really wish this could be a top 100. It may end up being that because of ties though.

Would making it a Top 100 limit anybody's willingness to submit?

EDIT: I seem to be having a strange twitch in my eye. I think it's from the part of my brain that knows how staggaringly stupid this is of me to suggest.

If we only submit 25 do we lose points then? Because if I have to submit 50 I'm out.
It's all based on how many you submit, up to 50. So if you submit a list of 50, your #1 counts for 50 points. If you submit 25, your #1 counts for 25 points. If you submit 8, your #1 counts for 8 points.

I'm not going to make it Top 100 if it reduces the number of submitted lists at all. I don't want anybody excluded.

While I could probably fill that list, I don't want to turn anyone away either. These ultimately work the best with more people involved, not with longer individual lists.

I think I've got my 25 hammered out, now I'm just trying to think of ones that fit the Most 80s tag.

We could make it a Top 100, but not discount points for entries of 25 or more. A list of 25 would count for 50 points for #1 and 26 points for #25. Then those that want to can submit a larger list, but those who don't can just send in the usual 25. Those who don't know how to narrow down their list of 40 could just send in what they have. Everyone wins. (Except Darth Geek, who now has to write 100 entries, so that's all his call!)

I'd be all for this. The 80s is the decade that shaped me as a movie fan and a pop culture enthusiast (I mean, look at what I riff!) and having a list of 50 would allow me to include a ton of stuff I love. I like the idea of 50 points on down and if you only submit 25, you only submit 25...

Yeah, I hate the idea of punishing people for not wanting to go a different direction than usual, particularly if it asks a lot of them (re: time).  I'm only doing 25.  That said, I think rather than asking for 50, it should be 25 but see how far you can go back before ties for #1 start happening, which is something that happens in lists with less participation.  I see this is a list with a LOT of participation, so I think rather than asking for longer lists, you should be trying to get MORE lists in order to make a longer one (and I feel confident you will).  Doing the 25/50 could work, but it could also get confusing.

Yes, I'm only done selecting from 81 right now but the final list will just be 25.

This is a tough one for me -- there are hundreds of 80s flicks that are beloved by me, many cuz I watched them dozens of times on HBO, so even if they aren't technically great films, they mean a lot to me and thus I'd want to include them. If it just needs to be a list of 25, fine, but mine will be fairly personal and will leave out a lot of things that will probably top everyone else's lists (I like the Star Wars movies, but honestly, I revisit Adventures in Babysitting and Big Trouble in Little China More).

It's been a while so I forget; is that how they got Han out of Jabba's Palace?

They didn't. Leia was an idiot and unfroze him right there, and had a tender moment untill Jabba found them. God, I hate Leia!

I will be utterly and totally amazed if Empire Strikes Back isn't number one.  That or Raiders.

I'll get a list to you soon, DG.    And regarding a Top 100 or whatever, my guess is, and what I found when I ran the top 90s list, is that there'll be so many different suggestions, it will fill out naturally from just a normal submission of 25.

I submitted mine just now. Will be wondering how many other B-flicks, campy classics and other mixed-in acclaimed movies we'll end up having.  8)
