Mashup albums (The Gray Album, etc)
« on: March 08, 2007, 03:45:58 PM »
Anyone a fan of mashup albums?  I haven't heard the Gray Album (though I have it on an mp3 CD somewhere) but I have one of Jay Z's Black Album mixed with various Grateful Dead songs called "Jay Z's Dead" which I absolutely love except for some of the stuff that Rick Rubin is responsible for on the Jay Z's original tracks...

I also have one called "The Beachles - Sgt. Petsound's Lonely Hearts Club Band" which the creator of calls unlistenable avant garde noise, only heard a few tracks but sounded interesting.

And I'm currently downloading one called "Phish Battles The Pink Floyd Robots" which is a mix of Phish songs, the Flaming Lips album Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots, and Pink Floyd's The Wall.....

Anyone have any suggestions?  And if allowed I can post sendspace links for the Beachles and the Gray Album since I uploaded them earlier for a friend of my dad's.

I love mash-ups, but sort of lost track of things when GYBO got a cease and desist and weren't allowed to link mp3s anymore, which made it annoying to actually go find new ones.

As for album? Lionel Vinyl - 2003 - Big Man, Small Cake is the one I consistantly go back too.

Although I haven't really gotten into albums so much, there are definitely mashup tracks I enjoy.

dj BC and the Beastles is pretty good stuff (Beastie Boys and Beatles tracks mashed)

"I Can't Lick You Out of My Bed" - Kylie Minogue Vs. Ludacris; oddly, I like the mashup better than the original tracks.

couldn't find Lionel Vinyl on oink, but I searched dj BC and found something else that looks incredibly cool:

Wu Orleans

1. Dirty Brass (Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Old Dirty Bastard)
2. Boxing Fats Domino (Fats Domino, Wu-Tang Clan)
3. Street Talkin' Wu (Dr. John, Bo Dollis, Wu-Tang Clan)
4. Mardi Gras Drunkies (Dukes of Dixieland feat. Luther Kent, Tha Alkaholiks feat. ODB)
5. Just The Wu Of Us (Rebirth Brass Band, U-God)
6. Bogalusa Shimmy (Chris Burke and His New Orleans Music, Old Dirty Bastard)
7. Beneath Dumaine Street (Tim McLaughlin, GZA feat. Kelis)
8. New Orleans Method (Barry Martyn and His Down Home Boys, Method Man)
9. Tico Tico Tash (Barry Martyn and His Down Home Boys, Tash feat. Raekwon)
10. When The Meth Comes Marching In (Louis Armstrong, Method Man)

also the guy apparently did an album called Glassworks which is Phillip Glass mixed with rap but that's not up there, but I definatly need to find it

I really like the grey album, but i don't know of much other mash-up stuff out there.  Although I do have an mp3 of Eminem rapping over Britney Spears' Oops I did it Again beat.  Pretty funny how well it lines up.

Best mashup I know of is more like... well it's a mashup band. It's called Beatallica.

Basically it's a blend of Beatles and Metallica songs, done in a hard rock / Justice- and  Black Album- era Metallica style. And they're hilarious to boot.

Please do check them out: http://www.beatallica.com/

Yep they rock, got both their albums in FLAC format. Haven't been there in ages, their site has been nicely upgraded.

I've got a few, my favourite would be Jenny from the Block laid over Tribute.

Anyone suggest any sites for less hiphop heavy songs?

Heh.  I like the sound of the Beachles.  Must find it.

EDIT: Found it.  Thought it was a mess.  If you like remixed Beatles' songs, check out the Love album.

There's quite a lot of mashups on youtube.  There's an interesting (but perhaps not entirely successful) mashup of Greenday and Oasis.

I've heard of them but never heard them, I've gotta check that site later though.....     You and Bathtub ever heard of Dread Zeppelin?  I'm not a Zeppelin fan but this is a lot of fun if only for the novelty of it:

Yeah, it's apparently supposed to be a joke... I've only heard half of it but some of it I find ok but some of it I really like it, but I'd call someone who puts a beat over the sounds whales fucking a genius...  I love the complete conflict of beats, rhythms, and keys in it, and of course when the song with all the random skips is suddenly morphed into the music from Super Mario

Love is amazing, I went into it pessimisticly but it really was a great album

yeah I've heard of Dread Zepplin, and Hayseed Dixie,... The Dementia music scene is probably the music I follow the most closely (anything that might show up on Dr Demento).
