Marvel TV: 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' - The Thread

I'll simply continue to sit on my last six 'Agents' episodes til Sept 9 (the street date for Blus of CA:tWS).  Then I'll have a marathon.

Just curious on this one. I watched all of SHIELD but haven't seen Winter Soldier yet.  Did it really spoil anything that obvious that wasn't seen/implied in the various trailers for Winter Soldier? The major events that they seemed to imply were happening were all basically stuff that I kinda knew about from the trailers I think.

Not really, the big reveal in WS is that Hydra had infiltrated SHIELD and were basically running things.  Robert Redford was Hydra.  Also that Nick Fury wasn't actually dead, but that wasnt really believable.  I didnt believe it anyway.

Ok that's what I thought.  (Those were the things I was thinking of.)

So I guess my answer to Lucas would be that you probably could watch them if you're running out of room on your DVR and need to clear off some space (or just don't want to wait until September) without really ruining too much if you've seen the trailers or have any sort of idea as to the casting of upcoming Avengers/Marvel movies.

However, that is just my opinion.  I wouldn't want to ruin the movie for you.  But it does seem that the major events were pretty much obvious from the trailers.  Again, I have not seen Winter Soldier yet but I do plan to as soon as it comes out.

I'd say it depends on your priorities. It really is awesome to watch everything in Agents of SHIELD unfold if you have Captain America fresh in your mind, but you could watch it in the reverse order and be surprised by the very same reveal. Or, to look at it another way, Captain America has a huge spoiler for Agents of SHIELD, but Agents of SHIELD has a huge spoiler for Captain America. They're the same spoiler. It depends on which one you want to be surprised while watching. I don't think either one would be ruined by knowing the twist..

Thanks, Pak - that's an interesting way of looking at it.  I think since Cap is 'bigger' (and has less installments to continue fleshing things out), I'd probably go with the film being the one I'd rather have 'unspoiled' (particularly since I can watch 'Agents' ep 17-on immediately after).

k1, I have gotten so good at avoiding spoilers I actually have not seen a trailer for CapAm:tWS.   I avoid even trailers for any film I already know I'm going to be watching.  And I have a DVR with DVD-burning capability, so they are already backed up, just waiting, so no pressure to watch (from that, at least).


My spoiler-avoidance developed into 'tactical viewing' of newsfeeds and other means of sharing info about upcoming [TV/film] after the end of Buffy season 5 was revealed in the subject line of a post on the Buffy newsgroup - over three months in advance of that final season 5 show airing.  [My ideas on avoiding spoilers for a theatrical presentation in case anyone is interested in the degree of tactical thinking I take this to.   Interestingly, I didn't mention 'avoid trailers for it' in that post... probably not relevant by that point.]

I will say that the show get a whole lot better in the wake of Captain America 2.  It feels like the showrunners knew about what was going to happen in the movie and had to spin their wheel for 15 episodes.

Well, in reading an article discussing next season's shift to a later time (with the new Sharon Carter show in the previous 'Agents' timeslot), I saw a picture that I think gave away the secret.

Is this the 'big reveal' that happened in 'Agents' and one of the ones in CapAm:Winter Soldier:

that S.H.I.E.L.D. is - if not infiltrated by - was actually partly started by and partly/mostly operated by Hydra?  [The pic I saw was like the initial 'Agents of SHIELD' promo poster, but with the Hydra logo breaking through the SHILED logo, and that conclusion (SHIELD basically 'owned and operated by' Hydra) is what I surmised from it.]

  ...Really can't avoid spoilers all the time, even if wanting to read something that theoretically should be spoiler free (discussing a time change and info on the Agent Carter TV show).

If what I have in the spoiler above is the reveal, then a quick 'yes' or 'no' from someone would be nice.  If the secret's already been blown for me, I might as well not wait til Sept when Winter Soldier comes out to finish off the season of 'Agents'.  In fact, if that is what the big reveal was, then it will get less climactic the longer I wait to see how it showed up in the series.

Well, the down side is that the revelation won't be as organically presented during the show.

But the upside is: I now have what it seems people here have described as basically the six best episodes of the season I can binge on all in a row tonight.

Absorbing Man was way higher profile and higher budget than I ever expected for this show. We're off to a good start!
