Marvel TV: 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' - The Thread

Other characters who need to be in this show:

Rick Jones:  No appearance in Hulk movies for the Hulk's bestest pal?  For shame.
Amadeus Cho: the seventh smartest man in the world!
Jennifer Walters: pre-She-Hulk.  Then, mid-way through the season, make her She Hulk.  Ruffalo shall guest.
Matt Murdock: Hey, Marvel's about to get Daredevil's rights back.  Why not defy expectations and have him appear here first before he gets a movie or TV show.
Damage Control: If they can't get their own show, they can still be a presence and also show that the Marvel universe is excepting it's super-heroes as more than a string of isolated incidents.
Jimmy Woo: Then we can have the Agents of Atlas appear later on.
Willie Lumpkin: Because Stan Lee needs to cameo.
And most importantly:
The Great Lake Avengers: Because, duh!

As for big season-long villains:
Baron Strucker: I don't think he's big enough to be a Cap leading villain.  But he'd make for a great SHIELD villain.
Scorpio: An actual Nick Fury villain!  And Fury's brother.  Maybe they should reference Extras and cast Laurence Fishburne.
SWORD: Yes, techinically SWORD are good guys, but SHIELD might not know that at first and it's a pretty common Marvel cliche to have two good guys meet and fight each other before fighting the real villain.  Also, Joss Whedon created SWORD.
Terminus: Technically the poor man's Galactus, but it would be a pretty big deal for the series.
Zodiac: Cause let's face it, they are never going to appear in the movies.

Writers who need to do episodes on this show:
Peter David (has TV experience and the man mixes comedy and drama well)
Ben Edlund (do I need to explain why?)
Jane Espenson (Again, do I?)
Jonathon Hickman (Great sci-fi writer and did a SHIELD series a few years back... about the organizations true origins)
Grant Morrison (Joss is a fan of Grant and Grant does have experience writing a well recieved play.  I'd like to see his mind-bending stuff on TV.  A long shot, but still)

Only thing I can think to add is to the writers:
J. Michael Straczynski - the guy who made Spider-Man not only readable, but exceptional there for a while; who treated the FF as they SHOULD be treated: straightforward S-F; and who did some nice writing on Thor there for a while and who (of course) not only provided ideas for the Thor film, but did a great little cameo (the first to discover Thor's hammer on Earth).  His TV work should be known to most: as creator of Babylon 5 and writer of about 95% of its episodes (Peter David writing a memorable one).

It sure was.  Most of his comic work has been worth reading.  Of his independent stuff, I most liked Rising Stars.

Since he has both 'Marvel comic chops' and 'TV-script-writing chops' I thought he might be a good fit for the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show... but with him and Whedon... maybe it'd be like very early Roxy Music with Brian Eno and Brian Ferry: two people who are SO creative that they simply can't 'fit' in the limited space available.

Meet the characters of Marvel and Joss Whedon's 'S.H.I.E.L.D.' TV show

Today the first concrete details about Joss Whedon and Marvel's new ABC TV show were revealed. TV Line reports that they have character profiles for the main characters of "S.H.I.E.L.D." (a spin-off of "The Avengers").

The character profiles are below, and they shine a light on what Whedonites and Marvel fans alike can expect from "S.H.I.E.L.D."

    SKYE: This late-20s woman sounds like a dream: fun, smart, caring and confident – with an ability to get the upper hand by using her wit and charm.
    AGENT GRANT WARD: Quite the physical specimen and “cool under fire,” he sometimes botches interpersonal relations. He’s a quiet one with a bit of a temper, but he’s the kind of guy that grows on you.
    AGENT ALTHEA RICE: Also known as “The Calvary,” this hard-core soldier has crazy skills when it comes to weapons and being a pilot. But her experiences have left her very quiet and a little damaged.
    AGENT LEO FITZ and AGENT JEMMA SIMMONS: These two came through training together and still choose to spend most of their time in each other’s company. Their sibling-like relationship is reinforced by their shared nerd tendencies – she deals with biology and chemistry, he’s a whiz at the technical side of weaponry.

The crew of Serenity they are not, but they are all-new, original characters never seen before in any of the movies of the Marvel cinematic universe.

After the wild success of "The Avengers", Joss Whedon signed an exclusive deal with Marvel to write and direct the sequel to the superhero blockbuster, as well as develop a spin-off TV show. "S.H.I.E.L.D." is that show, which he will produce partners in crime Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. According to Whedon, "S.H.I.E.L.D." will operate autonomously from "The Avengers" and the Marvel cinematic universe.

Oh cool, so 'Agents of SHIELD' is actually about agents of SHIELD.  I like that, makes the superheros more special if they're not in every ep.

I hope they don't get too far away from the superhero universe though.  That's what will make SHIELD unique.
