Well, it's good that she gets more screen time.  I'm sure she'll get treated well, especially since she wasn't always treated well by some writers, who treated her as lacking in leadership or quasi-villainous, largely due to her antagontistic role in Civil War (which had a lot of inconsistent character issues).

So he's already hard at work with the actual filming already.  Maybe a Summer season start for it?  After the writer's strike disrupted so much, there was some talk of redistributing season starts through the year (not that much has occurred with that plan on broadcast stations).

I'm fairly sure that it's going to be coming out in Fall.  It would make sense to have the pilot done way ahead of time first in order to look at it an fix any potential problems in post-production and see how the finished product will affect the future episodes.  And it seems like a big production, so it would make sense to have a lot of time between the filming and the premiere.  Still, there is an increase in Summer shows as of recently for networks to compete with cable shows, but a lot of those are going to be Summer-exclusive.  Though it would be interesting to have a Summer blockbuster TV series, but I wouldn't hold my breath for a Summer release.

It would be interesting to see, when this show airs, how it syncs up with not only the existing Marvel films but films releasing around it.  If it is in the summer, doesn't that put it right in the middle of a lot of movies?  On one hand that could be good marketing, on the other hand it might be a mess if the events are supposed to be kept in any semblance of order.

It has a new title: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and a new cast member J August Richards (AKA Gunn from Angel).

The project long referred to as "ABC’s Joss Whedon-produced S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot" now has the new, equally unwieldy name of Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.—a name reminding us that the show may concern a monolithic, top-secret organization concerned with investigating otherworldly threats, but really it’s about the people. (And the brand recognition.) Released alongside the official title is an official synopsis, which suggests that Clark Gregg’s Agent Coulson will be rewarded for dying by taking on some new responsibilities:

Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) returns to the worldwide law enforcement organization S.H.I.E.L.D. He puts together a small, highly trained, team of Agents to tackle the cases that haven’t been classified yet, the new, the strange and the unknown. That team consists of straight arrow Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), an expert in combat and espionage; pilot and martial artist Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen); and brilliant if socially awkward scientists Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge). They’ll be joined by civilian new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet).

And while casting has so far stayed out of the traditional Whedonverse (though we’d still bet on some inevitable Amy Acker appearance mid-season), today comes word from TV Line that Whedon couldn’t resist adding Angel alum J. August Richards. The actor, who played the streetwise-turned-telepathic-panther-wise Gunn, has joined S.H.I.EL.D. in a “super top-secret role” that already has everyone in the comments naming all the black characters they can think of in the Marvel universe, so we’ll let you get to that now.

It looks really great, and the network better not frak with it.......but I think they wont.

I'm hoping Whedon can stay involved personally throughout the show's run, and not get sidelined by the Avengers sequel.  He did that with Firefly, and Buffy and Angel's quality took a bit of a nosedive without him involved.

I think Angel did alright, but yeah, Buffy really suffered for it.  Season 6 was a depressing slog, but season 7 was a mess with a lot of cool ideas that didn't really feel like they got proper follow through.  It promised to be a return to the more fun stories, but it fell back into old habits.  Shame he couldn't wait one more year.

Anyhoo, still excited.  The previews don't seem to have the strength of Whedon's humour, but I think it's just that out of context it doesn't work as well.
