I voted for Musicals again.

The problem I have with songs from movies is that my list would consist mostly of songs from a handful of movie musicals, each of which would taken up one spot in a musicals list.

I'm not entirely clear what counts as a song from a movie really.

Songs from Movies would just enable more people to fully participate.

I would assume that as well, DB.

In my case, I can only think of like three musicals that I would like enough to put on a list. Whereas songs from movies, I can think of a bunch -- at least two or three from Hedwig, a couple from Sound of Music, a song or two from Team America, etc.

Would it include scores?

Yeah that's a large part of why I asked, I mean I know my top pick would be a song sung by Satan but I wonder if incidental pieces count for further down the list.

Well, we did have a list of film scores already...  (check the masterlist for that).

Right, but's that's the score as a whole. It's the difference between voting for Requiem for a Dream and voting for Lux Aeterna for example.

A message from one party:

"Musicals would include stage musicals and operas, movie musicals, TV musicals (both in terms of episodes and overall series), video games, radio and/or podcasting."

No answer regarding the other question posed yet.

To clarify,

Songs from movies would include any song from any movie.  It does not matter if the song was composed for the movie or not.  And although I would prefer songs you can sing, it does not matter if the song has lyrics or not.  Obviously the more memorable the song from the movie is, the more likely it would be included on multiple lists.  And I would fully expect certain classical pieces from certain films to make the final list (both musical pieces composed for the film and those from the past that were included in those films.)  However, I really don't want this list to turn into a redux of the film score list.

Entire film scores do not count as entries, so if you are considering this please take a look at the soundtrack listing from the film and choose one track for your list.  And while there is nothing stopping you from filling your list with a bunch of tracks from one or two films, please try to not do this.  Mix it up a bit and pick one or two at most from a single film.

Same songs that are voted on from different films will be combined into one entry.

For the sake of consistency, please have your entries as follows - "Song Title" - Artist (or Composer where applicable) - Film

So, for example, "Breaking Free" - Zac Efron & Vanessa Hudgens - High School Musical

IMDB and Wikipedia are good resources for soundtrack listings for specific films.  As are the end credits of whatever film you want to include.

Thanks to those who are voting for this, and I hope to see lots of lists turned in if this ends up winning the poll.

I'll go with Songs from Movies.   I probably wouldn't be able to do a good list, but man do I hate musicals.

Musicals - and if you don't know very many musicals, then go out and rent every old Fred and Ginger movie and become educated. Trust me, it'll be good for your soul ;)
